Players appreciate this as a nostalgic platformer that captures the PS2 era experience, though it serves mainly as a graphical upgrade rather than a full remake. Common complaints center on outdated design choices including a problematic camera, clunky controls that make platforming feel imprecise, awkward riding sections, and a lack of modern quality-of-life improvements, making it primarily appealing to genre enthusiasts and those with nostalgia for that era rather than newcomers.
Played this game recently due to it being one of the childhood games of a friend of mine. I wanted to stream it for him, and about halfway though the game it turned into something of a scoring challenge run for me, just to make the game more interesting. Kay is something of an oddball that I would describe as a "you're 10 years old, poor, and you barely have any games on the PS2" masterpiece. This is the kind of thing where, if you're a dumb child with no skills or standards but tons of free time on your hands, you could easily play this game for 200 hours and just lose yourself, just playing it again and again and adapting to its quirks easily. Admittedly, there are quite a few high points, such as an oddly charming dub (...ahem. I'm talking about the Italian dub. Seriously, just give up on the English voicework and switch to Italian. It works oddly well), very neat little comic-book-style cutscenes, as well as a fairly fun time routing yourself through the game in order to achieve a high score (this got a bit annoying towards the end, but I could easily see someone going whole-hog on that aspect). The soundtrack is also pretty decent if you like Asian-orchestral instrumentation …1 found this helpful
it's a good entry point for platform game. Voice over is special to say the least The camera is bad.1 found this helpful
Furry Fragment of the Past

The Good

Just as a note, this game has some decent gameplay, but all of them are bogged down by the atrocious camera, so take these "good" points with a massive grain of salt
Platforming is probably the best part of the game, platforming sections are spaced out to have your jumps barely make it but not frustrating, and the combo attacks while not hard, are smooth and satisfying
Combat is simple, but again with comboing is actually quite fun, especially some harder late game fights, different weapons also are cool, with the roll around and grab attack being quite fun to use
Consumables are powerful in this game, making it actually something you need for harder battle, but not spread out so often that you can spam them, including armor
Early boar races are honestly pretty fun lol, the drifting is not too bad. However the late game ones where you
ride the wolf
are a lot worse due to narrow passages, causing more camera fckery

The Bad

One of the worst cameras in 3D platforming, even for its time. You cant really look up past eye level, camera consta…
I never liked much the oriental themed games, just not my vibe but I do like platformers and Kay... is a platformer but with flaws. The riding sections are awful, I would completely cut them from the game. The platforming is clunky and kept missing my jumps due to strange control scheme. There is also fighting which I understood very late in the game but I suggest getting used to it as early as possible. The final Boss fight is pretty epic and hard. Only for true fans of the genere.
Annoying to play. Uninstalled. Too long with too little susbance
Classic PS2 era platform game. A good play especially if you remember games like this from that era. It is however a graphical improvement not a remake so you will miss some of the quality of life changes in more modern games (looking at you camera) Enjoyable none the less
