About MADHOUSE
MADHOUSE is a retro horror action RPG with a chibi aesthetic -- a bloody re-imagining of an early 2000s indie cult classic. Blending gritty 90s punk horror with chaos, join Butch on a quest for revenge in search of his wife’s killer, exploring a dreary open world filled with monsters, maniacs, and other twisted characters. Slash or blast your way through enemies in intense, gore-soaked combat, buy guns, gear, and interact with NPCs the town of Grayville, and battle friends in a four-player local versus mode (playable online via Remote Play Together). With edgy themes and retro pixel art, MADHOUSE is perfect for players who crave macabre action RPGs with a punk edge.
⚠️MATURE CONTENT WARNING⚠️
MADHOUSE features frequent, stylized violence and gore in a retro pixel art style with chibi horror characters. Players engage in bloody combat against enemies and other playable characters in a four-player versus mode, with pixelated blood splatter effects, and encounter dark cinematic moments, such as the main character’s wife being killed in the opening cutscene. The game features mature themes including strong language and depictions of tobacco use, which includes underage smoking. Not for sensitive audiences.

I've known the creator, Paul Hubans, for a long time and we worked together on UFO 50 for many years, so this is a biased review in that sense... but at the same time, it should make it clear that I'm a genuine appreciator of his games! Paul always puts a lot of heart into his work, and MADHOUSE is no different. It's a (darkly) charming top-down action adventure with classic design sensibilities. Despite the horror themes, I find it to be a very cozy game to play - the pacing is brisk and consistently keeps you entertained with new narrative beats, setpieces, and objectives. Structurally, there is exploration, but it's not an open world that takes you far away from the main storyline. There's no aimless wandering around, getting lost in side quests, etc., which I find quite refreshing. Given that it's Early Access, it's worth noting that there are some rough edges and the story is only partially complete. But what is there is already quite juicy - at least a few hours of nutritious GAME without any padding. And then there's the Versus Mode, which is even more fleshed out... although I haven't had the opportunity to play it as much, the times I have were full of chaotic interacti…14 found this helpful
Having fun playing Madhouse, as it was gifted to me by a friend that also enjoys playing it. The story mode is fun, at the time of this review it is still in early access. It is enjoyable to learn about the characters backstory, and the boss battles are a fun challenge too. The multiplayer is also extremely entertaining as you can battle your friends in a deathmatch or team deathmatch. Looking forward to the release date for the full game.2 found this helpful

madhouse.....even in early access ive been having way to much fun with this game. a mixture of SNES style and light souls like gameplay with music by pale death hitting me just right. if anything i encourage you to pick this up for the multiplayer and the story. looking forward to the game as updates roll out.2 found this helpful
Fun time with friends.
If Link to the Past made sweet love to Splatterhouse, and they had a baby, and you gave that baby a bunch of guns, it wouldn't be as fun as MADHOUSE because it wouldn't have a kickass deathmatch mode Don't give a baby a bunch of guns. Play MADHOUSE
