The game is baby holding your hand the entire time - there's nothing you can solve on your own, the mc always tells you how to solve it. The only reason this game has a survival tag is because there's this annoying hunger and thirst bar, which the game could easily do without. Also 15 euros for not even a 3 hour game? Even AAA studios give a better price for their games. The game is just long enough so you couldn't refund it.4 found this helpful
Finished the game in 6 hours. I think the game was very well made with stunning visuals and a bit old-school Gothic like feel. The monsters felt scary, making your move ahead slowly and even though sometimes they seem too hard you're always provided with enough health potions. I recommend this game to anyone who like old-school RPG games. For this quality of a game, it is very cheap. It is a nice original story, that makes you want to keep playing to the end. Hopefully there will be a sequel at some point.4 found this helpful
Map of Materials is a fun game and much better than I anticipated. It is obviously a bit rough and not very long (I finished it in 3,5 hours), but it also has some pretty unique ideas. The biggest downside is probably the presentation. The animations are rough, the UI could need some work, the character and enemy models are not very detailed. But on the other hand the music and the landscapes are nice and the overall progression is quite rewarding. I think the game would benefit from some more atmospheric elements, like more interactions with the environment, more unique items you can find in the world, more lore-elements, maybe an overall more melancholic tone (but that's just me). But all in all it was a lot of fun to play.1 found this helpful
Good stuff. Cheers!
Map Of Materials, developed and published by Mike Engler, is an open-ended indie action RPG that blends exploration, survival mechanics, and crafting into a single cohesive experience. Rather than guiding players through a tightly scripted storyline, the game drops them into a mysterious island setting and encourages discovery through experimentation. From the outset, it becomes clear that this is a title built around curiosity and persistence. The world does not revolve around constant tutorials or quest markers; instead, it invites players to observe their surroundings, gather resources, and gradually understand how its interconnected systems function. The gameplay loop revolves around exploration and material acquisition. As the title suggests, materials form the backbone of progression. Players scour forests, deserts, caves, and frozen regions in search of resources needed to craft equipment, enhance weapons, and survive increasingly hostile environments. Each biome introduces its own challenges, from environmental hazards to aggressive creatures, reinforcing the importance of preparation. The act of gathering is not merely a side activity—it is central to character growth. To…
Solid old school RPG in the spirit of the old Gothic/Risen series
