About Mara

A short story of about 50 minutes awaits you! I hope you enjoy it.Don't think of this project as something that will seriously scare you — it wasn’t intended to be a terrifying horror game, but rather more of an experiment or a fun little joke! You receive a job from a dealer and learn that a group of archaeologists has discovered an ancient tomb in an abandoned mine near the city! Now you must get inside and steal the ancient artifacts to sell them. You will have to explore the forest surroundings and the tomb to find anything valuable. Since you are an experienced thief, you have an active skill called "Thief’s Instinct." It highlights tracks and important items! Keep that in mind!Pretty Good graphics and surround sound completely immerse you in the eerie atmosphere of this mysterious place!Mara isn’t your typical first-person indie horror. You won’t find tons of loud jumpscares here. I wanted to create a small, interesting, dark, and sometimes funny story, so I focused more on the overall atmosphere rather than fear.

“Mara” Mara is a small indie horror experience that surprised me in a few ways. The game is fairly well optimized, which is always nice to see in indie projects. There were even a couple of moments that genuinely managed to scare me a bit. The humor is pretty simple and sometimes a bit silly, but it still works overall and adds a bit of charm to the experience. That said, the game is very short — around an hour long — which makes it hard to fully recommend at full price. It also feels like it doesn’t fully commit to being either a proper horror game or a comedy experience, ending up somewhere in between. Pros: -Decent optimization -A few genuinely creepy moments -Light, goofy humor Cons: -Very short (about 1 hour) -Doesn’t fully deliver as either horror or comedy Conclusion: If you can grab it on sale and just want a quick, casual indie experience for an evening, it’s worth a try. Don’t expect something deep — just a short, slightly spooky ride with a bit of humor.

Mara is a compact first-person horror adventure developed and published by Nick Abrams. Rather than trying to compete with lengthy survival horror experiences, it embraces the idea of being a short atmospheric journey that can be completed in roughly fifty minutes. The game casts players as a skilled thief hired by a mysterious dealer to infiltrate an ancient tomb hidden within an abandoned mine after archaeologists uncover its existence. The objective is simple on paper—steal priceless artifacts and escape—but the mysterious setting gradually transforms what begins as a straightforward burglary into a tense and unsettling expedition. The developer openly presents the project as an experimental experience with a blend of horror, mystery, and dark humor instead of promising relentless scares, making it clear that atmosphere is the true focus. The game's strongest quality lies in its environmental storytelling and immersive presentation. Players travel through gloomy forests before descending into the forgotten tomb, with every location designed to create uncertainty through dim lighting, detailed environments, and carefully crafted sound design. Rather than overwhelming players wit…

Game has a bug where the lock pick animation does not appear thus rendering the game totally unplayable (you can’t progress without opening the case with the lock picks as you need the item ti stop the gas leak). Other than that, some text was illegible. The atmosphere for the time I managed to play was good but not scary. Thief skill does not actually help much.

Honestly, this game surprised me it's genuinely good and pretty funny in parts! This is coming from someone who saw the 'Mixed' reviews on Steam. The playthrough took me about an hour. I watched someone else play it, and they blitzed through it in like 30-40 minutes. But you know what? The dev is totally upfront about it being short it's right there in the description. Gotta respect that honesty! I also really dug the voice acting, even if I needed subtitles to understand what was going on, haha. For such a tiny price tag, I'd definitely recommend grabbing it. Solid 7 out of 10 from me. In fact, I liked it so much I already picked up another game by the same developer

This was very aesthetically pleasing. Lovely atmosphere and creepy at times. I would of liked more puzzles and maybe the ending could have had some credits rolling. Perhaps there is more to come?! Looking forward to your next game. See my playthrough here: https://youtu.be/6aP2YVLDlGQ
