First of all, huge thanks to my friend 💖Scummy Christ💖 for gifting me this game. Otherwise, I probably wouldn't have gone out of my way to play such a relatively niche title. To my surprise, Miasma Chronicles ended up being a genuinely enjoyable experience, and I think that's largely because of how well it balances real-time stealth with turn-based combat. In many tactical RPGs, combat begins the moment you enter an enemy's detection range. Here, however, you're free to scout ahead and plan your route, sometimes you can even eliminate all enemies with out engaging just by isolating them and picking them off one by one. Compared to the heavily RNG-driven hit chances in games like XCOM, Miasma Chronicles clearly encourages consistent strategy over gambling. As long as you plan well enough, most encounters can be won through tactics rather than luck. The art direction also surprised me. Whether it's the post-apocalyptic environments or the smaller environmental details, everything feels thoughtfully crafted. The environment dressing is especially impressive, giving each area a strong sense of depth despite the game's clearly modest budget. Visually, it never feels like a low-budg…26 found this helpful
Loved the game, loved the story! Such a shame initial negative reviews made it so that no DLC ever came. This isnt MYZ, but it is a very good game still. I've completed it twice.
Fun game. Mutant Year Zero vibes. Love turn based games so Im a little bias
Really loved this game. The setting and characters, a really solid AA experience with great gun feel and a cool vibe. A good sleeper hit for those who loved the challenge of harder tactical shooters. My main gripe would be the miasma powers system, and the difficulty scaling. Difficulty: Even on normal, it feels incredibly punishing. It’s scaled to a level of difficulty not unlike the more hardcore modes of xcom 2, where your entire team is often needed to take down one mob. Fine with that challenge for the early enemies but for a game that included armoured tanks who can spawn in normal soldier every two turns - you’re just way too underpowered, I didn’t have a way to grind xp or money for weapons that I could see, and was forced into unwinnable battles. The trees I just couldn’t take down before they’d be able to spawn 5 or 6 saplings that would surround and disable your characters - it actually didn’t feel feasible or enjoyable to pass that part of the game. For the first time maybe ever I put a game to narrative difficulty and enjoyed it far more. Now that things weren’t so spongy, I could be tactical and take enemies out from stealth if they strayed or I distracted them, an aw…
Big huge thumbs up. i love the world this developer is making with their 2 games. 1 thumbs down for how expensive everything is, also the gun that costs 7k plastic not worth, better guns for cheap, save moni
I really wanted to love this game, but the more I played the more I grown to... cringe from it's existence. At the very beginning, I was like "how could a game this polished have completely flown under the radar?" The graphics are good, the story is engaging at first, the mechanics are seem to be well made. But the deeper you get in the game, the more rot comes to the surface and you realise, that they were probably either running out of time or funds as they progressed deeper in the development of this one. The biggest downside is the writing. If it wouldn't have come out before the AI craze, my bet would be it is written by AI. The story doesn't make a lick of sense, the dialoges are like made of a 14 year old, writing a fanfic for an otherwise successful franchise. There are logical loopholes all over the place. Like, the post apocalyptic people call crashed planes "Sky whales" while the First Family, the ruling class still very much uses planes to move their troops and collect tax. This is just an example, but the whole thing is painfully dumb. The characters try to be loveable, but when you make your main character, who you ALWAYS need to have on your team an annoying, …
