Monstrous Lovers

I really don't want to be critical, because I know how hard it can be for indie companies to put out content. That, and I really wish I could recommend this game...but as it is now? It's just a no. It's okay, cute even. But was it enough to make me say I "loved it?" and that it was "worth buying?"...not really. To start: I did like it, and like I said...it's cute. And if you're the type of person (like myself) that eventually wants to try all of the LGBTQ+ games out there good or bad quality? Go ahead, get it full priced or wait for a sale. That's up to you (but I do recommend waiting for a sale because the game does currently have a lot of issues). Now about the story: Was the story good? Wellll...? Yes and NO. I liked the story and where it could have gone. It didn't really flow that well tho. It felt pretty rushed, had ambiguous endings, and if you're there for the romance & sex, both felt pretty lacking. It's really up to perspective tho, but I personally felt the romance was rushed, and so were the sex scenes to me. [i]Monstrous Lovers[/i] is a queer visual novel with a pretty interesting setting and some charming writing and art - but it has some significant downsides too. [b]6/10 - enjoyable[/b] After several times trying and failing to get past the neutral-bad 'you didn't get the job' ending that tends to occur at the end of the intro if you don't follow a walkthrough of route choices, I was still interested enough to give up the illusion of player agency in order to read the story of each character. It certainly made things a lot smoother, though I was disappointed to encounter a handful of error messages from bugs in Ben's route that made it awkward to complete. I feel like checking out this story was time well spent for me - the writing is generally good, though it sometimes has minor grammar or typo issues that can jolt immersion a bit if you're used to proofreading things, and the focus on serving the needs of a diverse community (of monsters, but the allegory for real-world diverse communities is obvious) was a real positive point. I try and play LGBT games and support the devs in the community. I really hate that I can't recommend this visual novel. I lost interest when I went through one of the paths, and at several points it displays an error so, you're missing parts of the story. Lucky you can ignore it and move on. Some times there is no image what so ever or it's just a checked background, with the wording. For £10+ I'd expect better quality. Surely this would have been flagged during the testing phase. You can get the free DLC (bonus) which I thought may fix the issue, but no. If I hadn't had this for so long (just not got around to playing it) I'd have requested a refund. The point of a visual novel is the visual aspect. I'd given up and lost interest in the end, and turned on the skip all, clicked ignore on the errors, and got the remaining achievements. The art work is good, when it displays, the idea of the story I like, and the start was good. The endings I really cannot comment on as I didn't get that far without auto skip. If you really want to give this ago, please wait until it's on sale, don't pay full price for it.

I really love the idea of this. And had fun playing until I got past the common route. And then I kept hitting bugs. Bugs that took me away from the route I was on into another route. A bug that took out the entire background. I reinstalled the game. Same problem. I am super bummed because the game looked like it was gonna be cute and then just hit me with all of that

This game has interesting characters and world building, and enjoyable story and impressive art. While it does feel like much more could have been done with the story (more development and details to the plot, more romantic buildup, etc.), it a unique game and worth the price.

Why is the voice speech in Spanish? and why can't I change it to english ?
