John Shen, the protagonist of this story, studied law in London alongside his brother, who was studying biology. One day, Shen's brother was found dead in his dormitory, and the police ruled his death as suicide. But when Shen stumbled upon a newly published detective novel on Shanghai News that depicted a murder scene identical to his brother's death, he began to suspect foul play. Convinced that the amateur writer was somehow involved in his brother's death, Shen returned to China to uncover the truth.

This game is two things. It's like an Ace Attorney set in 1900s China, and it is a historical showcase of the time. The artwork and the overarching story capture the nostalgic and at the same time uncertain period of China emerging into the current era and its interaction with the outside world. The artwork is gorgeous, especially during the travel scenes of zoom out when the game is showcasing the environment in cities, villages, and rivers. The voice acting and translations worked well and they did a great job showcasing Chinese culture and history with little bits of information that are fed to us as the story progresses. Even the English parts are well done, they found some actual English voice actors who spoke well! The music I found pleasant and suited the scenes, I like the traditional instruments. The puzzles and clues are not too difficult and not too easy, they are just right and give a good sense of satisfaction. There were some parts where I had to use hints, but I didn't feel too bad about missing them. There were also some 'running' or 'sneaking' type sequences, short but thankfully can also be skipped. Overall - if you like Ace Attorney, I can defi…1 found this helpful
Good game
Awesome story!
This game was both a fantastic detective game and a dive into 1900ish China! Shen and Afu are awesome characters, the mysteries are fun to solve, and it's all very well researched with great twists and turns! I couldn't put it down!
I loved this game! The story progression and the history behind this was really eye opening and captivating. I am a big history buff and seeing snippets of real history and cases shown during the game was a great touch. I'm really looking forward to the next chapter of this game, everything was really fun and the voice acting, both Chinese and English, was really great!
An extremely well made game inspired by the Ace Attorney games, taking parts from all games from that franchise (Investigations included), removing all the annoying padding (I adore those games but they do love making you tapping/clicking everyone on the screen, constantly going back to talk to the same people just for a single new line of dialogue and other stuff like that) and keeping things grounded in a quite fascinating era of Chinese history. The story is intriguing and keeps you invested throughout the entire game, the crimes are quite interesting and satisfying to solve and as I said the devs took inspiration from various entries from the Ace Attorney titles (probably a couple of others as well) so you do have to solve mysteries in different ways keeping things fresh. Like. you know how in Ace Attorney there usually is at least one new mechanic in each new release to keep things from getting too stale? Here you get these in every new case. Art style is great, even though I am not a huge fan of the animation style that makes everyone look like a carboard cutout, music is pretty good and the voice overs also well done even though it's clear when a Chinese person is try…
