After breaking up with my ex, the world around me lost its usual colors, and my life quickly grew into a gray, dreary, and inescapable routine. At least that's what I thought... Players praise the game's artwork and character expressions, as well as its emotionally raw writing that deepens as the story progresses, though some found the premise and early pacing clunky. The main complaint centers on the narrative's punishing design: players feel denied meaningful control during critical story moments while the game holds them responsible for bad endings, combined with heavy themes like suicide that dominate many endings and weren't adequately warned about. Technical issues like repetitive music and spelling mistakes, plus an uneven tonal balance between humor and darkne
Depressing and punishing in unfair way. Problem with this kind of game, is that it gives you very subtle, meaningless choices, and punishes you later, by main character acting on its own, in situations which actually _are_ meaningful. so you don't have a control in most critical moments and just watch the mc ruin everything. Okay, I guess this can be some kind of tricky challenge in these kind of games, but this one really triggered me, because right before the bad ending, the authors themselves turn to me, oh irony, as the girl which I wanted to get the good ending with, and say: "Hi Aure, why do you make such bad choices?" , here's the bad ending for ya.. No, it's not me, it's how you designed it and now you are trying to make me feel bad for that? If you invest your emotions in games like this, it's better to stay away to not let it ruin your day. However, if you can stay detached and you like clicking all kinds of combinations of these choices to find different endings and just move on and forget all about it after 4 hours of playing, then yes, this can be fun for you.15 found this helpful
I spent about 4.3 hours with My Summer Adventure: Memories of Another Life, and overall, I had a good time getting 100% of the endings / achievements. The artwork really stood out—characters showed believable emotions from both side and front views, making scenes come alive. But it wasn't perfect. Some music loops felt short and got repetitive pretty quickly, and I spotted several spelling mistakes scattered throughout the dialogue. One thing caught me off guard: the story focused a lot more on suicide than the game's Mature Content Description suggested. Many endings revolved around this theme, making me a bit uncomfortable at times. While I chuckled at some lighter moments, the heavier scenes never deeply moved me or brought me to tears. It felt like the game couldn't quite decide how emotional it wanted to be. Still, it was enjoyable enough to keep me playing until I reached 100% completion. Many endings felt similar, sure, but discovering each new outcome was fun in its own way. I’d recommend My Summer Adventure: Memories of Another Life to fans of visual novels who don’t mind some heavy themes in their story. 8/102 found this helpful
My Summer Adventure: Memories of Another Life is a narrative-driven visual novel that blends romance, introspection, and light supernatural elements into a reflective coming-of-age story. Developed by Alkinoy and published by 101XP, the game centers on themes of identity, second chances, and emotional rebirth, using a familiar visual novel structure to tell a story that feels personal and quietly ambitious. Rather than relying on spectacle or high drama, it builds its impact through character relationships, choice-driven storytelling, and a steadily unfolding sense of emotional dislocation. The story begins with Maksim Laas, a young man stuck in an uninspiring routine and reeling from a painful breakup. His life takes an inexplicable turn during an ordinary train ride, when he falls asleep and awakens in a completely different place—and body. He finds himself inhabiting Akira Kojima, a Japanese student living an entirely separate life in another country. This body-swapping premise is not treated as a source of comedy or shock alone, but as a catalyst for self-examination. Maksim must navigate an unfamiliar environment, cultural expectations, and social relationships while grapplin…1 found this helpful
I think on a surface level, this initially felt kind of clunky with the premise setup as well as the strange visual transitions, music choices, and humour. However the game's writing took a sharp turn for the better and it really felt more raw and emotional as you got deeper into it. I definitely liked Kotonoha more since she felt more complex as a character with a richer backstory. I think this was worth a read, despite having an awkward balance between fun and heavyness.
