About Mythmatch

Mythmatch is a town-building merge game with an anti-capitalist story. You play as aspiring goddess Artemis trying to find her place in Olympus. But when she is rejected and sent down to the mortal realm, she learns how her billionaire family negatively impacts the mortals. Instead of fighting for her place among the gods, she discovers the joys of working within a community and building relationships.Play as Artemis and help the women of Ithaca rebuild while the men take their sweet time returning from the Trojan War.Building a CommunityThe Mortal Realm isn't where you expected to be, but it might be where you belong. Get to know the mortals and learn what community can look like and how you can be part of it.

A Family to Un-Find

Artemis was born to be a Goddess, but in Olympus, the elitist gatekeeping runs rampant. Use your spite to fuel you and show them that you deserve a place in the pantheon.

Challenge the Gods

Mythmatch features unique and replayable challenges with four of the Olympian gods. From clear-the-board puzzles to turn-based auto-battlers, these minigames will keep you on your toes.Perform well and you'll earn their favor, which will provide benefits back down in the Mortal Realm.

crossposted to The Geekly Grind Mythmatch bills itself as an anti-capitalist tale in its Steam description, which it is, but it's not quite what I expected. This is a soft, kind tale about community and interdependence, portrayed through bright colors, and the Greek Gods at their most adorable. And as such, I adored it. Before diving into an exploration of this particular game, I have to go backwards and explain merge games. Merge games are a genre of games mostly found in the mobile game sphere. I'm not sure if this was the first one, but Merge Dragons from Zynga is certainly the most notable. The key mechanic is placing three (or more) of the same objects together will cause it to "merge" into a new item. Then, three of those will merge into yet another new object, and so forth. It's a strangely addictive formula, especially if  resource management and puzzle solving are incorporated. Unfortunately, most mobile examples fail to incorporate those elements. Zynga tends to lean heavily on pay-to-win mechanics to squeeze money out of their players at the cost of any actual depth. Mythmatch’s staunchly anti-capitist theme is fitting in this light, with the plucky underdog indie step…

Love the unique approach, very addictive with only negative becoming too grindy to finish in the end.

Exquisite, compact, beautiful. Strikes an impossibly perfect balance between "light enough to enjoy after an awful day at work" and "just challenging enough, if I want, to push me". I've never played a match-3 game like this before, and I truly worry that it has ruined me for any other match-3 game. You can tell how much love and care has been poured into every minute aspect of this game. Honestly, I could go on and on and on. I can give no better endorsement than this - I found this game during a rough period, rendered manageable only by the prospect of coming home and losing myself in this game. I loved it. I loved it SO much!

Really cool so far. Cool art, good humor, and satisfying game loop so far, where every in game day allows you to progress one or multiple objectives. Only hurdle so far? I had to search how to find the doll part (racoon eats trash). If I didn't find that info on the internet, might have been blocked a bit. Works great on the Steamdeck
