Nippon Marathon 2: Daijoubu

I'd been playing quite a bit of the demo for this sequel to Nippon Marathon, so I bought it without hesitation. I think it's a significant improvement, while still retaining the charm of the first game. The character creator, modern graphics, and photo mode are standouts. Even so, I felt a bit disappointed with the initial content in this Early Access release, as I found it somewhat lacking, with only three maps, two more than the demo, and no glimpse of the other features. My overall impression is positive, as I understand it's Early Access, and I certainly want it to continue being developed, with everything that was promised, which is a considerable amount of things. The demo is still available, I recommend giving it a try, since it’s a really fun game. I've played a lot of Nippon Marathon on the Switch. Countless hours of laughter with friends on the couch. After trying the 3 maps available in the sequel right now, it really seems like the dev doesn't understand what made the first game good. NM2 feels more rigid in physics/animations, more rigid in what the player is allowed to do, more rigid in controlling the character. Some thoughts: 1. When a new round starts, it usually sends everyone too far back. Nobody wants to replay the same segment 2-3 times before we're granted the mercy of moving on. 2. There's a couple of odd segments where you're forced to halt the race and do borderline nothing (literally nothing in one instance). 3. The new mechanic of waving at fans to get popularity sucks. There's nothing fun about it, why tie it into the gameplay loop? 4. Diving has become so awkward and stiff - I'd rather it be assigned its own button so that I can do it without jumping or deliberately time the dive in the jump arc for different physics interactions. I also hate that it screws up my jumps if a second jump input is detected. Bring back more dramatic ragdolling. 5. The round end winner cam is way too long. The game end po…

It’s a bit bare-bones as it stands now in early access but you can see how it will be a proper sequel. The graphics are improved while retaining the same gameplay from the first that made it such a blast to play. I’m really enjoying the new levels, they are bonkers with all kinds of crazy things going on. The ramen factory level cracks me up and is so creative and fun. There is a new create-a-character mode which is cool. The first thing I did was to make a wild custom character and tailor them to exactly what I wanted. Nippon Marathon is one of the most fun and entertaining games I’ve ever played. I’m happy to support the devs in early access and excited to see what the future holds.

I have been waiting for this game for years. Amazing, can't wait for the future updates!

It's still early access, though it's still chaotic and hilarious just same as first game, I love this game.
