About Nocked! True Tales of Robin Hood

The Story
The peasants of Nottingham bow under the weight of Prince John’s taxes; nobles fall to the Sheriff’s political machinations; deserters from the Crusades pillage the land; and fairies lure the unwary into the depths of mist-shrouded Sherwood Forest, never to be seen again.

Step into the chaos of a magical England at the end of the Third Crusade.

Maid Marian hides breathless amidst the brambles after the sack of her father’s castle; Little John charges a bodyweight in gold to cross a lonely log; and Will Scarlet holds court in a brokedown tower surrounded by trees as tall as the sky, waiting for a king who will never come.

The time is ripe, a spark is lit – from the ashes of your home, from the shadow of anonymity, step into legend.

You are Robin Hood.

The Game
Nocked! is a lushly-illustrated, story-driven role-playing game. Define the deeds and identity of Robin Hood, outlaw of Sherwood Forest; recruit allies, forge alliances, find love; and chart a path between war, negotiation, and dangerous magics. Your choices are remembered and your actions shape the world, but you can’t do it alone.

Story and strategy collide as your reputation spreads and Merry Men join your band: Build and expand a base in the hidden deeps, manage your earnings from raids on tax collectors, and prepare for the coming of the Sheriff of Nottingham. There is no sure and easy path to victory, no one decision that will save your resistance; will you fall beneath the Sheriff’s boot heel, or will you build a movement to last the ages? The choice is yours.

Experience a lush and vibrant Sherwood Forest on desktop with art inspired by Lotte Reiniger - an early animator/director/artist - combined with traditional watercolor techniques; and original music drawn from medieval sources.

Nocked has it all and then some more! Robin Hood is a myth and story truly, beyond a doubt, overdone and oversaturated in all media. I think on that we are all agreed. So how is it then that the most interesting, unique and magical version of this tale comes in form of a choose-your-own-adventure indie game that is so incredibly underrated? What makes Nocked truly special for me is perhaps its atmosphere and tone. It really balances out the sense of adventure and discovery with a certain sense of humor and spirit. This is a tale that is far more focused on the mythology and magic than most Robin Hood tales, concerning itself with spirits, faeries, ogres and dragons as much as taxes, knights and peasant troubles. The Deepwood of Sherwood Forest feels like a living entity and a battlefield of conflicting factions and figureheads. Robin and his/her Merry Men can create something special in these woods, all the while battling the tyranny of the Sheriff and Prince John. That's where the game shines as well, the amount of choice and directions to take. There are a couple of really big events that you can approach in a variety of ways, but there is also the everyday decisions that infl…

Gorgeous game, gorgeous writing, gorgeous soundtrack. Paid homage to the Robin Hood mythos while throwing dozens of other mythical and legendary characters in as well. If you're a fan of celtic legends, King Arthur, Shakespeare's faeries, or stories in general you'll enjoy this. Also loved the nod to Hand of Fate 2 in the list of inspirations during the end credits, another hidden gem!

Very good game, would recommend if you like robin hood, true tales, or nocking. Seriously though, for anyone that enjoys text based adventures, this is an excellent one. Small games like this deserve all the attention they can get.

It's fun. It has a couple playthroughs worth of material. Got it on sale and don't regret it one bit.

A surprising find! As I started I wasn't terribly impressed with the whole 'choose your own adventure' part. But what had interested me in the game was the base management part and when I got to it, I did enjoy it. Everything is text-based but you're still managing your resources and power to win over factions. And believe me, WORK on that faction rep before the final showdown! Fortunately I was able to squeeze by. Overall, I did one play-through in about five hours just taking my time. It did seem to have a bit of an abrupt end but I think there's also a small re-playability aspect to this game. I'd recommend however I'd wait for it to go on sale since I think $20 is still a bit steep.
