Oil Empire

waited 4 months for pretty obvious bug fixes, that didn't happen, so I can't recommend it, no changes to the game since release.

I dunno if it's a bug or not but when the badguys came clicking my cards did nothing but take the money, and they all stayed but no longer gave rewards (hot air balloon and airship never went away) so I couldn't get the votes to protect myself in time :-(

Oil Empire is a decent, small-scale idle game that feels well-polished now, as the developers seem to have fixed most of the bugs—I didn't run into a single issue. There isn't much hands-on gameplay, but it's a solid, hassle-free background clicker.

Oil Empire is a solid idle/incremental management game with light shooter and base-defense elements. It seems that many of the negative reviews come from players expecting it to be a spiritual successor to Oiligarchy. Since I've never played that game, I evaluated Oil Empire on its own merits rather than through the lens of nostalgic expectation (not that there's anything wrong with reviewing things that way - i just haven't played the earlier title). Taken at face value, I found Oil Empire to be both relaxing and enjoyable. While it embraces the familiar progression of the incremental genre, it also requires a modest amount of strategy (for the genre not when compared to proper strategy games). Efficiently managing your assets while balancing expansion with defending your infrastructure from military raids adds just enough decision-making to keep the gameplay engaging without undermining its laid-back nature. There are also some shooting mechanics but i found them to be more of a hinderance than a positive attribute to the overall experience. It seems like the developer of this game might have moved on from it. The game was pretty fun up until the final stage, where you really need votes for everything. You get 3 votes every minute, but to buy three different buildings—which all cost at least 50—you'll need votes. You also need votes to earn prestige points for other buildings. Plus, votes are required to produce ammo or rockets to fend off the military—and it’s not just a few hits. For drones, it takes at least 12 shots, and for helicopters, around 50 rockets or 100 bullets. Crafting bullets gives you 3 at a time, while rockets are made one at a time, and each takes 30 seconds. On top of that, if you're aiming for achievements, there's a challenge to speed run the game in under an hour. And be careful—if you ever stop your game for any reason, you lose all your progress and have to start over.
