solid pick-3 roguelite. plays reasonably fast, fun synergies with interesting mechanics (both micro and macro), good music, art is a lot of fun playing up its garish loopiness, gaudy ui is a lot to take in at first but it becomes intuitive. underrated

One Armed Bandit is the kind of indie roguelite that succeeds almost entirely because of how confidently it embraces its unusual premise. Developed and published by Gral, the game blends roguelike progression, slot machine mechanics, and build experimentation into a surprisingly addictive experience where every spin has the potential to completely change the outcome of a run. At first glance, the concept may sound like a novelty joke built around casino aesthetics, but after spending time with its systems, it becomes clear that the game is far more strategic and carefully designed than its bizarre premise initially suggests. Not for me, I don't like the mechanic that forces you to go to a spot or the guards eat up your space, allow me to explore like a real dungeon. Timers are stupid in a deck builder type rogue-like. Slay the Spire doesn't force me to pick a card within a time limit right? Same idea.

I feel I have no control over whats going on (though there is clearly some item strategy involved and the artwork is a little crude. All that said, its an experience and I regret nothing. In essence this is a anti-gambling gambling game, which is amusing in of itself and reminds me vaguely of the origins of monopoly being anti-capitalist.
