One Move Away

It's a bummer that this game has mixed reviews, because I really liked it. Most of the negative reviews reference the "bumpy ride" mechanic which, honestly, probably would have been a deal-breaker for me, too, if it hadn't been fixed shortly after launch. The game now tells you at the outset if there's a bumpy ride lying in wait for you at the end of the level, and lets you disable it without any penalties to your score. You should probably do it-- this is a game that starts off deceptively easy, but starts getting gnarly pretty quickly. This game has some of the trappings of a cozy game, but it's really much more of a puzzle game that requires you to really plan ahead to get everything into the limited space you have. The controls and physics are a little wonky at times, but I never found it to be too big of a problem. If any of this sounds appealing to you, definitely give it a shot. It's not perfect, but it does what it sets out to, and does it well.

I was hoping for a more relaxing, ocd-satisfying experience, like a reverse Unpacking, but as other reviewers have said: the optional objects and objectives are very counter-intuitive and frustrating, really ruining the experience. while they are optional and best ignored, as a completionist I find it very hard to ignore them. Luckily they resolved this issue with the bumpy ride mechanic, but even still, I don't think this game is for me.

I think the mechanics could use a *touch* of work. Mostly I think people could benefit from a jump button and/or and in-between state from standing to crouching, just to make navigation a little easier during larger, more challenging levels. That being said, One Move Away is a very relaxing but challenging game that is so satisfying to beat! You'll think you're killin' a level with ease, and then lo and behold a massive dresser you forgot to account for in the moving truck. Things might seem impossible, but after restarting and trying a different approach, suddenly everything fits seamlessly with no trouble at all! I highly recommend this game, but go into it expecting a challenging puzzle, NOT a cozy copy/paste of "Unpacking".

I received this game through Keymailer and I am so thankful. I had a lot of fun playing One Move Away on stream. I really love puzzles games and this definitely scratches that itch. The only issue I had with it was sometimes the movement felt a little clunky, but other than that it was a lot of fun.

I really enjoyed this and am already craving a sequel or DLC. It fits the cozy game vibe while also being pretty challenging at times (at least if you're going for the bonus stars) and really satisfying to complete. And to its credit, it avoids the two biggest pitfalls that I often complain about with these types of games, which are being too short to be interesting and not pushing the core ideas/mechanics further. This game nails both. The length is great with three different characters that each have a good number of unique levels, and some individual levels are quite large and will take a while to complete. And I was consistently impressed by the amount of variety here. The different levels shake things up much more than I expected, and it's cool how packing a tiny suitcase or packing a gigantic shipping container can both be challenging. My favorite levels were the ones with the trailer, since you were able to build outward by stacking and hooking objects to each other in creative ways by balancing the weight distribution.
