Occupy Mars: The Game

They said that in update 1.2 you can configure tons of settings like length of a day, etc. I bought it and ... bought it. They didn't do that in fact. It only works in sandbox mode, but you still have to power through the campaign and then keep enough interest for another playthrough to be able to do that. The campaign itself sucks. You've crash-landed on Mars and yadda-yadda, yay, Subnautica in space, sounds fun and I loved the early demo. What you figure out past the 2-hour refund mark though, is that you have about 5 days worth of food, and of course, a bit of hunger makes you useless quasi-instantly, oh and also the lander starts to die by day 3, and you'll never make it. So the game is not about enjoying your newbie experience, but about dying and retrying repeatedly just to find the exact chess moves in the proper order so you can survive. Not my idea of fun. Subnautica it is not. It's like a cornucopia of bad design decisions. You ran out of food. You can't even sleep through the night (can't go outside, the cold kills you instantly), so you have to just sit around watching youtubes. Remember "Take On Mars"? They took THAT from them. Just picked up the game yesterday and played it with two others. We encountered a lot of issues and im honestly a bit surprised co-op is this buggy. Would have waited had i known it was this bad. We had three different occasions where none of us, not even the host could use the crafter, and we had to reload three times to get it to work again. I couldnt open the door but everyone else could until a reload. Mined rocks were in three different locations, for three different people. Multiple occurrences where several of us could not interact with anything, and it wasnt a connection issue. This was in the span of less than two and a half hours. We all decided to come back to the game in the future in the hopes that it would be actually playable in coop at that time.

I'm absolutely in love with this game. Its quiet and relaxed. But if you forget one thing you die. Its a task after a task, yes its grindy a little but once you get into some breakaway techs it really does expand fast. There are bugs, but so as long as we report them the developers do respond. If you are willing to give it time and allow the early growing bugs that it has, you can sink allot of hours very fast into this. I haven't even got into multiplayer yet I hope I find a nice bunch to live on mars with.

Fun progression, challenging yet intuitive to play

If you enjoy a purely survival experience, this is probably the best ! The science behind the simulation and the technical learning and applications required to be a successful survivor are very good.
