Plunder

Plunder is an action RPG that's sort of a cross between of Sid Meier's Pirates! and Dink Smallwood. You sail around a fairly large map, have lite naval battles complete with boarding attacks, and land at various locations to explore towns, find side quests, and explore dungeons. There's a pretty good variety in weapons, with each type also having a few unique variants that are worth finding for the novelty alone, like a bow that lets you steer the arrows after firing or a hand axe that heals you when you do damage, and even more build customization in the other equipment and stats. The dungeon exploration is pretty engaging, as they all have distinct puzzles and riddles to access all the unique loot. You can hire AI crew members to tag along behind you, and even unlock your own settlement that you can expand and improve with all the money you stop really needing otherwise. There's a few problems - items on the ground vanish if you leave a map, even ones that were hand-placed to appear the first time you enter, so if you go exploring and bail before completing an island or dungeon, you might not have the tools necessary to do so. A 2D action/adventure RPG where you play a pirate roaming the world, going on adventures at the behest of a cryptic old man. Explore dungeons, fight monsters, learn magic, evade deadly traps. It's got an attribute and skill system that lets you make different builds, and is overall the kind of game you root for to succeed. Clearly a passion project, rough around the edges but with a great core idea. And absolutely, 100% not for me. I have no idea where I'm going most of the time, I die constantly, I can't solve any puzzles, and I can never find whatever it is a quest needs me to find. That said, I am a low patience gamer who wants to be handheld and prefers my challenges to be very straightforward. But I know there are a lot of folks looking for games that provide a serious challenge and if that's you, consider checking this out.

Fun little quests and interactions in this one feel bespoke and hand-placed. I really enjoy the variety of quests and puzzles and combat challenges. Even if all the art looks like MS Paint it has a lot of personality and charm. I got stuck on a puzzle right before the end but someone on the forums here helped me out (I don't know how I got stuck, in retrospect). Big piratical recommend.

This is such a nice little game so far. I love the homemade feel. Exploration is a lot of fun and combat is decent. It was really exciting to defeat my first pirate crew. I wish games like this got a lot more recognition than they do... this is exactly the sort of thing I search through Steam's bajillion games to find.

Great Game Lots of Pirates

I was in no way compensated for this review nor encouraged to give favorable The review is my own* So far im 2 hours in and this is the point i like to make an initial review and first impression of the game. It is Hard but rewarding. The game starts out in a cave. Very straight forward so you get the hang of the controls. Once you leave the cave there is quite a bit you can do. And shortly after you get the ship even more of the world opens. Make no mistake it will cause a lot of death but once you get the mechanics and the party growing (with buying companions at the pub) you can walk through forts and dungeons with ease. This is a good game so far and well worth it. Now for the Gameplay. The combat is easy one click weapon swings and guarding keeps you clicking like mad to keep yourself alive. its fast paced and at the start you dont have a lot of health to throw away. Once you unlock the ship you get to do Naval warfare. Quite enjoyable it is to blast the enemy with a volley of cannon fire. I have always loved Ship to Ship combat so this was great for me.
