I thought this game was just OK. Graphics and sound were fairly good and the underwater idea is great, but the reasons I am giving it a thumbs down: It just isn't that special of a Metroidvanias. The mechanics are OK, but felt a bit limited compared to the better Metroidvanias. It felt like a pretty short game. I played for 14 hours, but when I got to the end, I was like "that's it??". Maybe I am being a little too critical on that. The end boss is kinda ridiculous to me (maybe my biggest complaint). You go through the full game relatively easily. Most bosses you will beat in 1 or 2 tries, at most. They all have 1 phase, and that's it.. then suddenly you hit this incredibly difficult boss. After struggling on the first phase for a while, I finally beat that, and then discover there's a second phase. I go back to struggling on the first phase for quite some time again, then I occasionally get through to the next phase and fail miserably.. rinse repeat for quite a while, then I discover there's a 3rd phase too!! I tried that a few more times, then I decided to just give up. I rarely do that in any game. I've completed both Hollow Knights, many Souls likes, dozens of other Metro…1 found this helpful
Fun until the final boss. Then it's just a slog. Didn't care enough to finish.1 found this helpful
4.3★ A really fun metroidvania, more so because of its true ending route, feesh!
I liked this game more than I expected, and if it weren't for a few things, it would be among the top Metroidvanias I've played. Let me start by saying that I liked the setting – an underwater world, which means there's no classic MV jump or double jump. The game looks completely different, and this uniqueness is its greatest strength. Together with the atmosphere and narrative - they create a great atmosphere. The combat, exploration, and character development are all top-notch. The combat is very good, the exploration is enjoyable (lots of teleporters, lots of collectibles), and you can level up your character with charms and increase your HP/stamina/damage. The basic Metroidvania elements are top-notch, which makes gameloop enjoyable and game just fun to play. Now the things I didn't like: 1. To get the true ending you have to play the game a second time - I don't like it because I know that I will play few games a second time 2. At one point in the game I was absolutely lost, I didn't know where to go, for me it was the most absurd situation in the entire game: At one point in the game, I wanted to explore the pit, down region, and when I swam there, my companion said that …
This game has some of the best boss design I've ever seen in a metroidvania game. Hard and VERY challenging on the highest difficulty, but never frustrating. Very cool story line as well.
Great game with a good story and amazing atmosphere. Graphics and boss designs are nice. Gameplay and combat system is fun. Multiple ways to build around with the chips to play as you like. It's a fun underwater adventure definitely worth picking up.
