The greatest story ever told

Oh my God bruh.

I was first introduced to the Souls series when I was about 14 years old. I remember being captivated by the rich lore, the picturesque vistas and the (sometimes) grotesque enemies standing in your way. I also remember thinking "I will never play this game, it looks too hard, I won't be able to beat it". The thought of guaranteed, repeated and frequent deaths was at odds with aspects of my personality. 16 years on, at the age of 30, I have completed my first playthrough of this game. It has changed me. I cannot recall feeling so enveloped in a game since I was a child. It is not a perfect game; there are some areas and bosses that you wish you could skip, but this in and of itself makes sense within the context of the wider design of the game. This game is all about patience and delayed gratification. Progress is slow, deaths are frequent, losing all of the souls you've gathered over the past hour because you accidentally fat rolled off the side of a cliff, it ALL adds to that magical sense of satisfaction and achievement when you do finally overcome those obstacles. Truly immersive, truly difficult and truly satisfying. 10/10. Onto the next.
