Instead I made Rage Quest: The Worst Game! A snarky, low-def odyssey through the trials and frustrations that unite gamers everywhere.
You’ll play as Ivy, a daring and cynical adventurer, as you spend 3-4 hours traversing a modestly-sized world of cheeky dialogue, terrible puns, and lovingly crafted artisanal frustration. Will your skills and irrational dedication to finish what you’ve started triumph over the forces of bad camera tracking, long cut scenes and useless allies? What other perils might lie in store for your delicate temper and extra-throwable wireless controller!? A: No. You can grind for EXP if you want, but it should not be necessary.

LOOK, I did get gifted the game by a dear friend BUT - i would have HAPPILY paid for it. This was FUN (remember when games did that). Everything that makes you go oh yeah i remember that meme about games - its here but better, on the nose without being obnoxious. Its short enough to not be grinding but long enough to do everything it set out to do. Its actually a good game (even including its deliberately placed "flaws") and nails the humour. (on Bat fact is wrong [citation needed]). Honestly this is just a hidden gem, anything under about $10 - $15 you are doing yourself a dis-service to not just have a good time. You pay $25 to go see a terrible movie for 2 hours, this gives you a lot of fun for MINIMUM 4 if you have a good muck around, i took 6! Enjoy it, embrace it, buy it. We need more game devs like this one, and more games like this one. Support what you want to see in the industry, spend the change to pick it up.3 found this helpful
2 hours later here are my thoughts. Rage Quest is a satire about game development. It pokes fun at all the bad things developers do during the process of making a game. Cheap copy/paste, overly long unskippable scenes, bad camera positioning... all the stuff that'd make your rage. The game does a good job of injecting comedy about these things while being intentional in the game. The game doesn't take itself too seriously and brings players on a ride through puns and horrible mechanics while using a solid RPG experience. Bonus for the first-person style combat opposed to "party style" most developers use for this. Things you should gripe about? -- No controller support. I believe any RPG Maker title should support it. The title screen bad pixelization I'm not sure if it was part of the joke or not but that just looks odd to me. Looks even worse on the larger window sizes. At $2.99 USD the game is right in line with similar titles so I feel you will get your money's worth. The game overall works for what it was designed for, so I'd say go get it and laugh at the developer poking fun at his own industry. TL;DR: 9/10 game. Highly recommend it. I just finished this game and I have to say it's some of the most fun I've had with an RPG Maker game. I picked it up on a whim since it was cheap ($3 at the time, in case that changes in the future), and I'd definitely say it was worth picking up if you have any interest at all and the humor in the screenshots is your kinda thing. The characters and story are silly, and had a bunch of charm. If you've played old-school RPGs and are familiar with the tropes, this game is aimed at you. Pros: (95%) - Short playtime (~4 hours, and you could go faster than I did for certain) - Consistently entertaining writing that kept me laughing throughout - Combat complexity not too much, but a pleasant surprise - Every enemy is quirky and creative, with tons of unique skills and dialogue - 'Bad game design' gimmicks were funny enough to justify their design, and most didn't overstay their welcome Cons: (5%) - If you don't like this type of humorous metacommentary narrative, it's just not gonna be for you; the gameplay is good but the writing is the primary focus here - Some of the places where random text is used in-game could use a few more lines to pull…1 found this helpful
