Raptor: Call of the Shadows (1994 Classic Edition)

absolutely loved this game as a kid, it was the coolest thing ever to me and more than likely set me on my path of loving STG. that being said, it plays pretty rough these days. four-directional movement that's weirdly floaty, this version has non-remappable controls, and in general it just can't hold up to essentially anything more modern. great for a blast of nostalgia if you're old enough for your back to hurt, but otherwise probably worth skipping.

I had a PC that has a 512 mb RAM when I was a kid. My uncle gave me a CD with some DOS games in it and that was one of them. Searched for so long and finally found it. Same as I remember, very appealing pixel graphics and sound effects. I will finally finish it after 20 years. I think it is one of the best looking shooter games at it's years. The only problem is my mouse is not working but there are people who solved it. Also I would love to see any addition for bosses and guns on the Steam version

It's just a DOSbox wrapper of the original, but it works well enough. If you enjoyed the shareware version back in the 90s, it's worth picking this up to finally beat it. Graphics, sound, and music are great. The story is forgettable and the difficulty progression is uneven. The final sector is a bit of slog since there aren't any new weapons to strive for by that point. Overall, Raptor was more of a technical achievement than a great game, but I still enjoyed it, especially for the price. Note: I had to tweak the settings.ini file to get music when running under Proton, but other than that it worked fine.

This is, of course, a phenomenal game. Revolutionary in its time, and a classic. I still have a copy, so I wasn't trying to buy the game, I was trying to buy the work to get it running well on a modern system plus steam distribution. Everything works great except that it's pretty unplayable with a controller because if you try to move diagonally, it decides for you whether you're going to move horizontally or vertically. There's no recognition of "both" being an option. I switched to a keyboard and it worked as expected. But if someone else isn't going to make the controller work well, what am I even paying for? Putting raptor.exe in to the dosbox autoexec? Why would I pay someone else for that? Realistically, going through the steam return process for $0.83 isn't worth the effort. But I'm gonna do it anyway -- it's the principal of the thing

Loved this game back in the 90s and love it now. I realize I was slightly better then as opposed to today...game is still one of the best

One of the worst shooters ever created.
