Refract is basically an updated version of a game I’ve played as a kid on my old DOS computer, the name of which escapes me at the moment. I thought I’d maybe get some nostalgic vibes from playing this new game based on the same principle of redirecting lasers, but all it reminded me was the frustration of coming up with solutions to these problems. I usually don’t have big problems with puzzle games that tackle spatial awareness, but Refract really tested my patience. This is mostly due to the fact that the difficulty ramps up so quickly, with so many different mechanics being clumsily introduced, never fully explained and then combined with previous challenges, so it becomes almost unbearably complex to satisfy all the necessary parameters in order to solve any given puzzle. I guess the biggest problem I have with this game is that it mostly relies on trial and error. There are few puzzles where you can look at the empty board and come up with a strategy for how to solve it. Mostly because the board never starts empty. The mirrors and color filters are always already in place somewhere, so you never get to see the basic layout of a level at the start without moving a bunch of …2 found this helpful
For my small playtime, I can say this is the best game on Steam. I can't get past level 10 for some reason but no one cares. Pros: - No extra voiceovers - 100% relaxing (tried raging at the game but it didn't work lol) - Good design - Made with Unity - Not P2W Cons: - Hint system is really bad - Need some animation on the menu buttons2 found this helpful
It's a fun but very challenging puzzle game, especially if you're not good at puzzles like myself. The hints aren't the most helpful, but once you figure them out it's a breeze. The music is also very relaxing :) (Most of my playtime was offline.)1 found this helpful
