Lucky me gets to write the first review for Reprogram... a game that's been on Steam since 2017, and yet, 5 years later, nobody had bothered to play it enough to review it. Until now... lucky, lucky me. Reprogram is a 2D retro pixel turn based tactical/strategy game that's been slapped together with the godawful GameMaker Studio video game construction kit from Yoyogames. It's unusual in that it's not just an asset flip or a copy+paste from a GameMaker Studio template, but a sincere attempt at making a video game with what is arguably one of the worst tools available for making games. Gameplay is convoluted and the poor quality interface and bad graphics discourage anyone from trying to get into the game. While depth in a video game is welcome, it also needs to be accessible... and every design choice here seems intended to discoruage, frustrate or simply disqualify the game from any consideration by serious gamers. Resolution and controls are locked, and can't be changed or customised to improve the visuals or the control experience. Reprogram, developed and published by Kompiler, is a logic-driven puzzle game that builds its identity around the idea of manipulating systems rather than directly controlling outcomes.
