Notable features
- Enter an epic pirate adventure in single-player. Four acts worth of hand-crafted levels are waiting for you to plunder. Not that you'll remember any of it from all that drinking.
- Live the pirate's life: Drink the finest rum instead of those weird-colored potions and elixirs. Boost morale by playing your music instruments. Gamble your gold away in a game of Liar's Dice. Dominate the waves in naval combat. You may also hunt legendary beasts if you can solve their mysteries.
- ARPG? I say YARRRPG! Looting is a pirate's profession. There are 33 hat fashions, 30 weapon types, 15 species of pets and plenty more to collect. Every weapon can have up to 2 Spell Runes with their own level-ups, modifying their attacks in wild ways. Character perks aren't missing either. Customization is as deep as the seven seas!
- Gun is half the title! The core game loop is that of a hectic top-down shooter, but melee and spellcaster builds are also viable. Note that movement is with the keyboard, since you need the mouse for aiming. The game is also using an active reload system.
WARNING: gamepad support has been discontinued! - Done with the story? Enter the Arena or the randomly generated maps of the infinite Treasure hunt mode. Try it in LAN Co-op with as many mates as your network can handle, or make your own maps with the included map editor. You could even share them in the Steam Workshop.
- Made with dedication: The game is being made by one person since 2018, with a custom-built game engine and original assets paying homage to low-poly classics of times gone by.
- Kick a zombie in half while playing the fiddle!

Rum & Gun? More like Bore & Dom. The combat isn't satisfying and there are terrible gameplay choices that make playing this game tedious. You have a reload mechanic that slows you down to a crawl and with the typical reload mini-game of pressing the button once the slider passes a point on the reload bar. This can be turned off in the options but reloading shouldn't be a core gameplay mechanic and it is, since most weapons so far have like 10 ammo. Sure, real powder weapons could not be reloaded by changing the magazine or inserting a clip but this is just unnecessary realism. Shooting feels terrible. All weapons are relatively slow projectile weapons and with enemies running all over the place and the game being 3D most of your shots miss, sometimes even at point blank range. Even if you put your cursor on the target, shots might miss because you're shooting at a crab or a flying insect and the shots go above or beneath the target so you spend your time running in circles, trying to hit something. AOE weapons exist but they use a lot of ammo and the damage and range are abysmal. The same goes for melee that also sometimes misses for some reason. There is a charge attack that you …2 found this helpful
Rum & Gun is a combination of a twin-stick shooter and action RPG about PIRACY! ... honestly it's not all that great, being a lot of Kiting Simulator 2024, but it was fun enough for the 13.5 hours it lasted, and it's only $5. Unfortunately it has a lot of gimmicky maps especially as you move along in the game (ship combat maps, tower defense maps, etc.) and they are mostly bad. Some of them, like the first tower defense, are OK, while others - the MOBA-like one especially - were stupid. The story is overtly silly, which is fine and probably what you should expect from the title. This is a... limited recommendation, I guess. It's pretty skippable, but it's also not a bad game.2 found this helpful
Rum & Gun is a Diablo-like that gets a handful of things right and a lot more things wrong, with some outright nonsensical design choices and gameplay that gets dull due to lack of variety much faster than other games in the genre. Unlike Diablo or Path of Exile, Rum & Gun doesn't have classes. Instead, it has a giant perk tree that you get four random choices from each time you level up. Half the perks are absolutely useless: there's one that reduces damage by a flat 1 (in a game where enemies can do hundreds of damage in the end-game) and another that adds 8 damage to attacks that cause stun (in a game where enemies can have tens of thousands of HP). Most of the good perks feel like a tax rather than a bonus: the most important branches are one that stops reflected bullets from instakilling you and a second that reduces virtually all incoming damage by 75% at higher levels. The game throws out the random perk mechanic a few hours in when you get access to a cheap item that lets you choose your perk from the tree instead of getting four random choices. You might notice that I didn't mention skills anywhere in there, and that's because Rum & Gun doesn't really have them. You …1 found this helpful
Fun little arpg. Could it use some more features and a tweaked different approach to skill tree/sockets---yes. But as a lover of games like TQ1, i can say im having more fun on this then i am on the EA TQ2. So honestly at the price, if you like ARPGs, just get it.
