S.U.M. - Slay Uncool Monsters

"S.U.M. - Slay Uncool Monsters" is a poorly made educational game, an arithemetic "incrementer" game with a thin pixelcrap "RPG" veneer glued on badly with library paste. This very squarely exemplifies the old adage that educational games don't make education better, but they do make gaming worse. A luzly bad pixelcrap game where you kill monsters by doing sums is one thing, but the toxic monetisation on this really kills it. This features really godawful pixelcrap "art" instead of real graphics. It's hard to say if this was because the developer didn't have the skill to do the job of creating 3D visuals, or couldn't afford to hire someone who does, but it also doesn't matter. What matters is that this looks much worse than most other games because of that decision, and that's a major deterrent to gamers. Games like Terraria and Stardew Valley succeeded [i]despite[/i] the bad graphics, not because of them. Now on to pricing and value for gamers. You're expected to pay up $7 USD to unlock content through DLC purchases. The game should not be considered completely unlocked until you empty your wallet for the developer. Cute retro graphics, music is not off putting after hearing it for the 10,000th time, Easy to get my little one to play/learn. I even had a little fun playing it... and I know how to add my numbers! A good value.

The grind is bad, repetitive, and not worth it. Play a different game or have your computer run the GIMPS distributed computing project instead so it can verify new prime numbers here: https://www.mersenne.org/ That would be a better use of your computer power than running this game.

For someone who has struggled with basic maths due to reasons I like this concept. Basic maths to fight against monsters and it lets you try multiple times. Be good for kids just learning to add up in younger years. Nice pixelated graphics and nothing too harsh on the eyes.
