After having this on my wishlist for 9 months since getting a Vive, I finally got the game once it released and was sourly disappointed. The gameplay isn't RTS, its simply spamming ships against an equally spammable opponent and choosing targets during the ensuing (and prolonged) battle. Neither the campaign nor solo skirmish battles offer any objectives, tactical incentives, terrain, or really much of anything to levy as an advantage over your opponent. The controls are clunky but manageable, the environments are aesthetic enough, and I had a good "feel" going into it from the menu, but the gameplay itself is lackluster at best. I can't even see playing this on the supported multiplayer as having any value over bots since there is a total lack of any strategic elements. I do not recommend this game and am extremely disappointed after having had my eye on it for months as an extremely anticipated VR space RTS.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=80_wlz4TuL4 I think the developer of this game deserves much praise for trying something new and risky by undertaking something novel in VR at this point in time. It's very clear to see the inspiration that derived from Homeworld, and that's cool, but the real killer for me is the lack of strategy in the real time strategy part of this game. You have the ability to order troops, but there are no buildings to be built, no workers or mining resources, nor is there any form of battlefield maneuvering, so essentially all battles begin with each side stockpiling as many troops as resources allow, then swarming each other in a really cool looking, but ultimately shallow space battle. You just kinda set it all up and then watch it happen. In fact, this set up and let loose gameplay makes me think that Saga has more in common with Gratuitous Space Battles than it does with other space rts games. One element that's very unique however, is there's a really cool ability to sit in your ship in first person mode which is very cool, but again, the inability to shoot and actively participate in the combat means besides looking cool it is essentially a function wit…

I really REALLY wanted to love this, but the final release is still little more than a tech demo. Not that I expected a AAA RTS, and for the 1$ sale I got, its OK for an hr. It looks like most of the positive reviews were from EA based on potential and the great progress the responsive dev was making. Pros: - tactical VR space fleet - decently crisp gfx and visually differentiated unit types - good unit variety with different weapon systems and purposes - campaign, skirmish w/ bots, multiplayer (if you can find someone else playing) - minimap Cons: - no plot at all - no objectives beyond kill or be killed - no actual RTS elements, looks like these were planned but dropped -- no resourcing, no mission to mission state, no research/upgrades/promotions, no unit building facilities, etc - in practice, it's more tactical than strategic -- each mission starts with some credits to buy a small fleet with and you earn somewhat more credits during the mission -- each mission starts fresh with 2 fighter squads and mission specific amount of credits (no fleet progression or mission specific setups) -- "campaign" is 8 or 10 missions that introduce more ship types and larger battles -- finis…

I definitely like the Idea of this game. The controls are a bit clunky, which mostly ruins it for me, but maybe I just need to give it a bit more time.

This game is pretty amazing. I can see a lot of potential. Hopefully the game will be expanded so that we can have fleets like homeworld! I think the only negative I can come up with is that I would like to be able to stand on the bridge of any ship so that I can watch the fleets battle outside and not have to put my main ship at risk. Even if it was only the cruisers and/or destroyers. It's games like this that will change the RTS genre forever.
