Shape Shifter: Formations

This game deserved a lot more success than it got. The visuals are great and despite being busy in the more hectic moments, I rarely got "lost" in the mix. The tag system is really well done and dramatically improves the roguelike elements over similar titles, allowing you to promote and blacklist tags and giving you a well-balanced level of control of your upgrades against the massive library of choices. I've got a lot of bullet heaven titles in my collection, and this one is hands-down my favorite. Hope more people get a chance to play it.

Fun simple shooter with lots of upgrades

This is a very good game! The stealth ship is a little overpowered compared to the others, because you're basically invincible for half the time and no other ship has enough healing or defense to compare to that, so the non-stealth ships have to rely on dodging and maximum damage, which is much more chaotic. Also, the long range and auto-targeting weapons are much easier to use compared to the other weapons, because they allow you to focus on defense and fire anywehere. So there are some balance issues, but the game is extremely fun if you pick the settings that suit you.

I initially gave this game a positive review, but after a few hours I've come to find it very frustrating. Sometimes there's no description on what things do, like overkill for example. I also don't know how percentages work, because if, say, an ability is reduced by 100%, it's not reduced to 0, or at the very least to a bare minimum duration amount like, <1 sec, no, it's still like 10 seconds. So it's not like really reduced by 100%, it's reduced by some non-linear rate. One of my favourite things in games like this is having drones, and there's a ship called the "swarm ship" that presumably specialises in this (though I may be wrong), but I don't know how to unlock it. The only reason I know about it is because one of the conditions for a locked weapon is to unlock the swarm ship, but then I don't know how to unlock the swarm ship because even though it states the unlock conditions for locked items, it doesn't state the name of said item. There's no wiki to look this stuff up, and no Discord. After 12 hours I've barely unlocked 25% of everything. It's very annoying. The game is out on 1.0, and I think that at that point the devs should have written a wiki for this stuff, even…

Love this game. So good. Hope there's more in the future.
