About Shape Shifter: Formations

Shape Shifter: Formations is an action twin-stick shooter with rogue-lite elements, where you must destroy hordes of geometric enemies alone or with a friend. Select your ship and combine a large variety of weapons, abilities and infinitely stacking upgrades to craft your own unique build.

Customize Your Loadout

Choose from a wide variety of ships each with their own unique active and passive abilities, ranging from shocking tesla towers and a burning laser, to clones that mirror your attacks or the ability to slow time around you. Pick the ship the suits your play style and outfit it with a weapon of your choice. Every ship and weapon has it's own unique skill tree, allowing you to alter and improve the way they play via changing abilities/passives and gaining new ones.

Shift Shapes

Survive against swarms of enemies before fighting challenging bullet-hell bosses each with their own unique attacks and abilities. Customize your own difficulty with many modifiers from electrifying the walls, to giving enemies elemental infusions. Higher difficulties can unlock prime boss variants for an even greater challenge and further rewards.

Limitless Upgrade Combinations

Gain experience by killing enemies to improve your ship with infinitely stacking upgrades that allow you to tailor your build as you play. Inflict a barrage of status effects on your enemies, or summon a swarm of constructs with their own weaponry. Extensive meta-progression between runs allows you to gain permanent upgrades, new game mechanics, and tons of new ships, weapons, and upgrades for future runs.

Features

  • Play solo or in 2 player local co-op.
  • 20 Ships and 20 Weapons to choose from each with their own abilities and playstyle.
  • Unique skill trees for every ship and weapon totalling 800 skills.
  • 200+ infinitely stacking upgrades to craft your build each run.
  • Expansive skill tree and meta-progression that provides permanent upgrades and new mechanics for every run.
  • Granular difficulty system to modify many aspects of the run.
  • Unlock new upgrades, weapons and ships by completing challenges.
  • Manual twin-stick gameplay. (With an optional auto-aim mode for those that prefer.)
  • Short 30 minute runs, with an optional endless mode.

This game deserved a lot more success than it got. The visuals are great and despite being busy in the more hectic moments, I rarely got "lost" in the mix. The tag system is really well done and dramatically improves the roguelike elements over similar titles, allowing you to promote and blacklist tags and giving you a well-balanced level of control of your upgrades against the massive library of choices. I've got a lot of bullet heaven titles in my collection, and this one is hands-down my favorite. Hope more people get a chance to play it.

Incredible minimalist survivor-like/ bullet heaven. Beautiful, easy to get into and extremely satisfying to explore and hopefully master.

Easily one of the best mindless grind roguelikes I've come across. There is a huge variety in viable builds, especially as you unlock more stuff, and the difficulty actually feels pretty reasonable. There's a good spike with the threat levels, and a lot of deaths are due to skill or poor build more than anything RNG-based. Whenever I'm feeling bored and want something simple that still feels fun/challenging, this game always comes to mind.
