SpeedCoins

SpeedCoins is a fast little 2D platformer that mixes platforming, shooting, exploration and time based challenges into one package. The main idea is simple enough. I have to collect the coins before the timer runs out, while dealing with traps, enemies and whatever else the level throws at me. What makes it more interesting is that I can also use abilities such as teleporting and time manipulation, so it is not just about running from one side of a level to the other. There are more than 50 non linear levels spread across different worlds, including the moon, desert and even hell, which gives the game a decent amount of variety. The platforming is probably the strongest part for me. SpeedCoins is clearly aiming for a quick and reactive style, and I like having to move quickly while still thinking about where the next coin is. Jumping, dodging and teleporting all work together to make the levels feel more active than a basic platformer. The time limit also gives everything a little more pressure because I cannot just wander around forever. I have to learn the layout and work out how to move through each section efficiently. This game is difficult, i like it.

It's a great game but needs more playtesting, balancing, and making some levels feel fun. Past level 12 it started to feel like a chore to attempt a gold level which is not even possible in some levels. Past 20 the game felt grindy. Is this because I played very quickly, maybe. But still, the issues are still releavent. (Not all of the playtime was on this account but I don't feel like I should verify my other account just so this review is more accurate with my playtime.
