About Sword vs Horde

  • Melee based horde survival
  • Swing your blade in circles, either clockwise or counterclockwise
  • Weapons have momentum and can bounce off obstacles
  • Unique dizziness mechanic to keep you on your toes

Dizzying Sword-spinning Combat

You sweep your blade around in a large circle, getting faster and faster, but if you spin in the same direction for too long, you'll start to get dizzy and eventually lose your sense of direction, leaving you open to enemy attacks. Better start spinning your blade the other way before that happens. You must find the right moment to do so.
Your footwork is important, too! Your movement will influence that of your blade and vice-versa, opening up a higher skill-ceiling. Positioning, quick decision-making and environmental awareness are key to surviving the endless onslaught.

Wave Based Horde Survival

A multitude of enemies with different abilities and behaviour patterns will come at you in huge waves with dozens or even hundreds of enemies on screen at once. Each successive wave will have different enemy types and increased levels of challenge. There are several battlefields to choose from, each with different environmental factors and enemy composition. At the end of each one, you will face a powerful boss monster with unique abilities. Try to beat him with every weapon to earn trophies and make it further and further to increase your highscore!

Quick and Satisfying Action

The game lets you get right into the satisfying experience of seeing your defeated enemies burst into a cloud of pixels. A typical run lasts only a couple of minutes, getting longer the better you play. Perfect for a quick play session in-between, or a longer one trying to up your game and beat your highscore.

Historical Weapons and Armor to Unlock

By surviving for longer and longer each attempt and defeating hundreds or thousands of monsters, you will earn points that you can spend to unlock a variety of weapons and armor for future runs. Each piece of equipment has different looks and stats that change the way you play.
Most weapons and armor in the game are based on actual historical ones, so their descriptions include a brief overview of the historical context.

This is such an amazing game! The core mechanic of swinging your sword left or right might seem simple at first, but is insanely challenging and fun to perfect and beat. If you’re good enough, you can even unlock cool new swords and armour-sets with extra trivia and different handlings. I also really love the art style! Especially the wolves, which are extremely derpy and (in my opinion) cute, but are also the hardest enemies. The extremely fitting and epic music is just the cherry on top. If you are looking for a fun game with an interesting and unique mechanic, you are looking at the right game!

I have refunded the game, it just isn't fun. I appreciate the idea behind it, but the gameplay is not something I enjoy and it pales in comparison to other games of the genre.

Classic Hack 'n slay game with a unique mechanic: You kill enemies by swinging your weapon around you, getting faster the longer you swing in the same direction. However, if you don't change directions often enough, you get dizzy, i.e., unable to take action for a few seconds. Additionally, you can use a boost to speed up faster, and stones etc. in the environment to stop your rotation, which gives you much room for experimentation and improvement over the runs. Different types of weapon and armor can be bought with in-game currency, which greatly improves replay-value, without feeling too grindy. If you like this type of game (including the pixel-art graphic style), it's definitely worth the price!

This is a cute little game with surprisingly catchy mechanics. Definitly woth it's money and good for a few short games in between. The combat mechanic of swinging your sword around is very unique and rewarding, even though it takes a few rounds to get used to. With different swords and amour classes to play around with, the games provides some variation and specializations. While some classes feel very similar to each other, you still need to concider the right class for the right weapon. All weapons and classes seem to be balanced with different pros and cons, but I have my favourites for sure. Also noteworthy are the nice animations and artstyle. The game looks, sounds and "feels" great. If you like the pixel art style, this should be for you. All in all I would recommend this little arcade game to almost anyone, if only for a few swings.

I really like the sword swinging mechanic. It is unlike anything I have seen in a game before. The game may lack some overall gameplay variety currently but it is most definetly worth trying out.
