My nostalgia goggles are very thick with this one, but it's one of the best Civil War wargames of all time. I think surpassed only by Sid Meier's games.

This game could have the makings to be one of the best Civil War games on steam if it was optimized. The game randomly crashes, which makes you have to save constantly. I really hope the devs will optimize this game for more modern computers.

An under-rated gem. Strategy at its finest. It's imperfect and takes a while to get accustomed to the interface. The campaign battles in particular are a little too pre-determined for my liking, especially around morale. It's also a shame there's no multi. These negatives aside, it's just an extremely rewarding game with the wonderful addition of a battle map with the classic bars and whatnot representing formations so if being 'boots on the ground' is a bit too local, you can check the map out for the wider strategic picture. Features like this give it the 'armchair general' feel.

good prequel if you're interested in Scourge of War Open play is a lot of fun

Well, the graphics wouldn't do for a flight simulator, but they seem more than adequate for an interesting war game designed to provide a simulated experience of commanding men in Civil War combat. What an interesting experience this provides! The words "oldie but goodie" spring to mind. And, I must say, it helps to patiently do the tutorials, before trying to save the nation.
