The Alchemist & His Battle-Scarred Homunculus

It's going to be a neutral review as I experienced quite mixed emotions while playing it. [u] Praises [/u]: +Honestly, I started this game to enjoy some explicit adult content but pretty soon I was hooked by the story & mc's inner struggle. That really left a strong impression on me. Again that damn feeling that this weird, illogical nonsense happens just to create some conflict for story development. The story is just average, kinda boring even as there isn’t really a central antagonist. The visuals, however, are quite impressive. There are 2 render options, but the original color grading looks far better than the newer “arrange” version. The game also runs at sub-1080p, which is odd. Add a bit of software sharpening though, and it looks perfectly fine.

This story is my first foray into higher end anime/hentai AVNs. I very much liked the story but it read awful fast. It was rough in the love scenes and Waffle should go with less (poor) love scene dialogue, perhaps using one or two more images in them instead would work better. The Alchemist meets all my general VN requirements...but honestly, I was expecting more. Anyway, you play as Rakels, an alchemist of some skill. When you went to University you had ambitious goals for your craft. You managed to push the bounds, and your work made Homunculii possible, when you created them you envisioned all sorts of helpful applications for them. The State however had a different vision, they took your work and your dream and twisted it into a weapon. Seeing your dream misused in this fashion has left you a husk of a man, containing little but a need to atone. You spend your days living on the edge of the fishing village you grew up in, brewing healing aids and other minor nostrums for the people living there. Pretty nice story about struggling to brighten others' lives in a pretty bleak world. The setting may be a little dark, but the story is a positive one that stresses the importance of trust.
