The Book of Outcasts

The Book of Outcasts, developed and published by kamti, is an ambitious dark fantasy title that tries to weave together multiple genres—narrative-driven adventure, dungeon crawling, and light settlement management—into a single cohesive experience. While its scope is impressive on paper, the actual experience feels like a mixture of strong ideas and uneven execution. This is really more of a mixed review. The story is good and the writing is mostly really well done. I do not regret the money spent or my time and will likely play it again. I don't generally like visual novels, so that says something. The images can be lacking, or simply don't match what you are reading (such as the totems being discribed as tigers, but are clearly a person). There are not a lot of text/translation errors, but when you hit one it is jarring. Sometimes things are mentioned, then nothing in that regards ever happens (such as the ape king saying if you ever come back he would mate you, then you return repeatedly, even to his camp, and nothing ever happens). Since they have started on the next game, I doubt anything will be finished in these regards... I hit an image missing error in a part added by a patch and had to reinstall to fix it, so the image wasn't included in the patch.

It is a good game and I really hope they make the next one.

This is a though one to rate. There are certainly some downsides: In many parts the game feels unfinished, e.g. the balancing of the dungeon crawler part feels off, the levels are far too large and become boring after some time, the overall combat system could use some more polishing, in some parts nothing really interesting happens with the story. Yet, there also many parts I did like: The setting is novel and good, I like the art style, the story has some really good moments, you have to make some decisions that feel impactful and I like that you can play as male and female character which makes a replay more interesting. So if you can live with a game that feels rough around the edges I can recommend to give it a try. I at least did enjoy the game overall and for me the game is good value for its price.

It's like when you're just horny and wanting to get a quick splash but now you have to save the entire castle and the one town over, oh! and also the one entire different dimension in the mirror. Also, there's this one girl who hates you but she also want to bone you so bad. Did I mention that despite the lack of s-scenes, everyone is still deep bone horny? Yeah, my fingers are basically tired clicking my destination instead of playing with myself. What even is life.

It is my honest belief that everyone should play this game :)
