The Cullfield Ritual

Mechanically interesting and clever horror title where you can escape at any time at the flip of a switch, only to return with another candle. Cullfield Ritual is a brief yet interesting horror game set in your own home, where you have scrawled a pentagram on the floor of your garage next to the breaker switch with a night of spirit cooking planned out. Turning off the power to the lights and relighting your candle gives a sense of range anxiety, as the only way to get rid of the demon is to turn the lights back on in the garage, which you have to do in the circumstance that your candle goes out, yet the demon stays. At that point, I learned the hard way the demon doesn't go out with the candle. Traversing the same home lit and in darkness feels powerful, to plan around the movements of the satyr toeing through your living room after you see it walking down your stairs, to then purge them out by flipping the breaker and solve most of the puzzles with the lights on makes it manageable and clever, that the protagonist was well experienced in rituals of summoning, ghost conversations, and sage-burning.

Man!! Really left me feeling disturbed and shook! Great game, would recommend :)

Holy Moly just finished the game. Solving all the puzzles first made it easier on me but I wasn't expecting the demon goat to run at me faster with each puzzle solved. Definitely an intense game :). This game may be short, but it is based on a very solid idea, and revolves around an original mechanic that nicely blends with the clever puzzles. The utter darkness, the low-poly VHS graphics and the creepy sound effects excellently build up the tension. The gameplay is fluent and nicely designed, almost flawless I dare say. Also, the story, albeit very simple, is enjoyable, and sheds a new light upon demons, that... may not always be the real bad guys. I strongly recommend this game if you enjoy smart and original puzzles, and if you like to face new challenges. Cheers guys!

The game is absolutely amazing and terrifying it has a unique concept and the visuals are decent I liked the game alot and I recommend it!

The Cullfield Ritual brings you rather difficult puzzles, and that would be fine if it wasnt for the fact that the locations and solutions are randomized every run. That may be to prevent easy solving after death, but bundled with the difficulty it comes down to being a very negative design choice. [strike]Items lack collision and can get stuck or fall through walls/furniture, forcing you to restart. Sometimes you get stuck in the hiding spot.[/strike] I understand this is bottom shelf indie from one developer, so its safe to assume there havent been any playtesters, and the lack of reviews dont help to improve this either. But even so, unfortunately I cant recommend it. EDIT: Items do not go through walls/furniture anymore, and you wont get stuck in hiding places.
