The Fog Knows Your Name is a 300,000 word interactive teen horror novel by Yeonsoo Julian Kim, where your choices control the story. It's entirely text-based, without graphics or sound effects, and fueled by the vast, unstoppable power of your imagination.
It's senior year of high school. Your classmate Rex Keller was found dead six months ago, and you were the last person to see him alive. Half the town thinks you murdered him, including his sister, Ennis. The other half believes it was the fog.
In your town, ever since anyone can remember, people die when the fog rolls in. No one knows exactly how or why. Some say the land didn't want the colonizers, so it sends the fog as an agent of vengeance. Some say the Devil himself lurks in the fog, collecting souls. Others believe the fog simply drives people mad, causing them to enact violence onto each other and onto themselves.
There is one element of the tale that remains the same in every telling: those who perish in the fog are guilty of wronging another without confessing to it. Those who admit to causing harm can walk in the fog untouched. The liars die.
Their ghosts haunt the town. They're haunting you, they're haunting Ennis Keller, and they're haunting your friends at school. If you and your friends can't unravel the fog's mysteries in time, those ghosts are going to kill you, one way or another.

Great game. Great story. Loved the various consequences, and stat differences. However, I absolutely despise the UI. There's no manual saving, so if you want to replay any parts to see what happens, or what it affects, you have to go in a very roundabout way of messing with the files the whole time. It's just really replay unfriendly.
Way too punishing, feels like you need a guide not to fail every godamn interaction with obscure stats, with minimal freedom to adjust to take each situation as it comes. Feels like your character stats mean next to nothing and personality / town stats matter a lot but it's not at all easy to decipher what would change the latter or how.
god I wish I could play this for the first time again
The best choice of games horror game. Choices matter, there are quite a few different outcomes for the story based on them and it is clear, wich stat will help wich choice. Very well written plot with balance between explenation and mystery and a great pace. The interaction with the cast fells very natural and their reactions and growth is very well written. And most importantley, unlike other games of this type (cough Fernweh Saga cough) it manages to generate an exellent atmosphere of mystery and dread while giving enough explenation about what is happening and enough interaction with the rest of the cast.
I didn't get the best ending, probably made some poor choices at the end, but this is one of the best-written COG games I have played yet. The romance doesn't get as spicy as other games since you're all teens, but there's still mature themes around death and horror scenarios.
I feel as if I must give this game a thumb's up. I played for hours, attempting to understand the statistic system. I believe that I did everything that I could do without going insane and playing the game for days on end. Otherwise, it is a very interesting, well-written, thoughtful story. The characters are memorable and fun. I was quite literally able to choose my own adventure, whether or not some of those choices mattered. I hope to see this game made into something more tangible. This is a choose your own adventure with an entire word format. If you like visual characters, this may not be the game for you. I also hope that in future games--and I wish for future games from this developer--that they at least add pictures and more than a few facts about their characters so that I am more engaged. TL;DR: Play this game if you like reading. If not, don't.
