About The Giant of Torridge Island

THIS GAMES DEVELOPMENT IS CURRENTLY ON HOLD UNTIL THE END OF 2025. Please do not purchase this product unless you are happy paying for the game in its' current state.*****************************************************************************As the sun emerges from the endless ocean, the villagers pray that the Giant will grace them with good deeds and a helping hand.

The Giant of Torridge Island is a sandbox game in which you can either help or hinder the life on an island. The Giant has the abilty to pick up almost anything and can make the objects interact in a variety of ways by placing them next to each other. These interactions will affect life and nature on the island in both positive and negative ways.

The villagers pray into the night, hoping the Giant will not return tomorrow.

Whether you wish to plant trees or chop them down, help build houses or destroy them, breed animals or hunt them, your influence will be felt by all, and ultimately determine the fate of the island and all the inhabitants of it. Just as The Giant molds the native villages, the villagers mold The Giant, every good deed delivered upon the residents will grant a star, while every bad deed inflicted will grant a tear. Collecting enough of either will make the Giant grow and become more powerful.

The Giant grows through the emotions of the villagers, learning how to further their happiness or misery. The Giant appears unmoved by which of the two is inflicted upon the islanders.

As the joy or torment of those on the island grows, The Giant manifests into that of what the villagers imagine the true nature of the Giant to be: an angel or a demon. As these feelings fester among the population The Giant will learn new abilities which reflect the villagers' notion.

And so another page in the tale of this island comes to a close. What lessons are to be learnt from today? What fate awaits the island tomorrow?

Whether you want to slowly build up a village with sprawling wildlife or destroy everything that has been built before, there are a variety of ways to play, and with constant content updates adding new tribes, maps and abilities for the Giant to employ, there will always be something new to discover on Torridge island.

Leaving a review because there were none, so I took a chance--I knew what I was doing, and now the least I can do is write up a reaction for the sake of others who come sniffing around, and also for the dev. It's too bad, seems like there's the seed of a cool game in here, and if the dev spruces things up I'd be all too happy to improve my review... plus, it always pains me to rag on someone's hard creative work, and this certainly gets points for its concept... but, just... not much else. First thing you notice is the giant controls painfully slow, the Y-axis of the mouse is inverted, and when you go to address this, for some reason the only "Settings" are/is: Toggle Fullscreen. I'm not even sure if I found all the controls in the game, because they aren't listed. All I discovered was WASD to gratingly, achingly slowly pivot and lurch your way around the sparse, garish island--your movement feels less like a bipedal giant and more like a tank in the mud--and spacebar to pick up/chuck stuff. The stuff itself is cobbled together from basic 3-D shapes in a way that's just a little too simplistic to retain any "simplistic charm," though I was ready to get with the visuals as I sa…

Game is kind of clunky. Difficult to navigate the menus and the controls are odd and can't be changed. Gameplay is a bit iffy as well but overall I did enjoy the experience. My end of day stats would occasionally freeze and I couldn't save or exit or anything. This would cause lost data? There is also not a lot of tutorial for what you could or should be doing, it is just sink or swim. The mobility as the giant is incredibly slow, kind of makes me bored spending so much time turning. My recommendations would be: A quicker transition between days without being kicked from the file. The ability to skip my end of day stats. The ability to change my controls. The Interface to be upgraded in a big way. Faster turning as the giant when not walking would be big but honestly any change in mobility would be better. More prompts for what you can do, I had honestly no clue what to do for the first couple days in-game. All-in-all, good game. I will probably play this some more.
