✦ AI summary

Guide a primitive tribe through a world of stunning yet deadly environments by wielding godlike powers over nature's elements—water, lava, wind, and more. This groundbreaking real-time nature simulation lets you sculpt entire landscapes dynamically to protect your people from catastrophic disasters and unlock your ancestors' lost powers.

From Dust is the latest original game concept by Eric Chahi, creator of the cult classic, “Another World / Out of this World”.
Immerse yourself in a world as exotically beautiful as it is dangerous! You control the destiny of a primitive tribe against the backdrop of a world in constant evolution—a universe where mighty Nature reclaims what is hers; and your mastery of the elements is your people’s only chance of survival...

This is the first God-game I've played. I've always dreamt of playing Black & White games, but was never able to as its never been ported or brought to any PC platform which made the game a lost relic. The mechanics are unlike anything I've seen and its interesting this kind of tech hasn't been used in other games since (that I know of). The way you terraform the landscape and how it changes with even the smallest alteration makes it very realistic. It's really addictive, and again, the mechanics have me in awe.

I played From Dust back on the 360 and picked it up again just now because I’m pretty sure I never finished it. What a refreshingly original game, a little like lemmings with physics. I wish more modern games let me play more with physics rather than focus on fidelity. It’s quite the thing to build a mountain and watch the displaced water swamp a village. Or see a volcano flow AND a tsunami get pushed around a village by an invisible force field. The environmental puzzles are fairly straightforward and allow for a bit of experimentation, it’s really not challenging until the second to last level. But rewarding nonetheless. But really, this is mostly about the spectacle of moving around earth and water and seeing how your little villagers respond. There’s a bit of jank with the AI pathfinding (not surprising when you can warp the land at will) and the physics, but that’s part of the fun. Well worth (re)visiting. I wish more games experimented with ideas like this one.

A great little god game but with limited content. I would love to see a sequel or extra maps (the challenge maps suck) but that is unlikely to happen. It requires Uplay so buy on sale because who knows when Ubisoft will steal it back from you.
