About The Golden Retreat

Plot

In this atmospheric anomaly game you jump into the role of a bartender working in an art deco style hotel. After your shift has ended you try to use the elevator, leave the building and head home. Unfortunately this does not seem to be easy because you find yourself in an endless loop and end up returning to the 9th floor. To reach a lower floor you need to identify paranormal anomalies and use the correct elevator to descend. Are you able to escape this horrible night shift or will something happen to you?
The Golden Retreat is basically a psychological horror walking simulator where you have to identify anomalies to proceed. Although you can interact with some objects, it's not necessary to find things that have changed.

Play Time

30-90 minutes, somewhat depending on the random anomalies the game gives you.

Difficulty

The game can be very hard if you haven't played anomaly games before. Anomalies can be small details as well as things that are easy to spot. Anomalies get harder the further you progress towards lobby.

Features

As you progress you discover more and more anomalies that fill up your collection. The game auto-saves the current floor, mistakes, spoken monologues and your seen anomalies. There is also a second ending. Besides that there are several settings to adjust so the game can run even on older systems.

Encounter Anomalies

You will encounter several anomalies. Some are just small changes like an object is rotated, others are more noticable and some might even try to kill you?

Anomaly Collection

To check which anomalies you already have seen, there is a collection to get an overview. Are you willing to find them all? Note - This can be grindy because anomalies spawn randomly but not every anomaly can spawn on every floor.

Descend through loops and spot very hard anomalies to survive and uncover a hidden truth while risking resets from a deadly basement encounter. You take on the role of a bartender working in a modest bar on the ninth floor of a high-end hotel. But your profession quickly becomes irrelevant, as the game’s real focus is in surviving a repetitive elevator ride. The game gives your character a voice through internal commentary, but right from the beginning, it’s clear that something is off. Room doors are left open, the hallways are deserted, and each lower floor is an uncanny copy of the last, save for the room numbers. Your goal is to reach the lobby, floor by floor, by identifying anomalies. The rules are simple: each floor contains exactly one anomaly. After surveying the area, you must choose between two elevators: the normal one if everything looks correct, or the broken one if something feels wrong. Choose incorrectly, and you’re sent back to the ninth floor with a strike. Accumulate three strikes, and you're dropped into the basement. This is where it gets dangerous, but it’s also very easy to complete. The basement is a short sequence, requiring you to dodge an entity that’…

Detailed and lovingly designed anomaly game. Finding the later anomalies is very hard but the collection feature helps a lot. Playing time also definitely longer than stated. Music from the jukebox is an absolute banger! You can't go wrong at this price. Tipp: Watch the credits, twist ahead ;)

If you like walking anomaly finder games like The Exit 8, this game is for you. Some anomalies are pretty tough to find. Don't miss the hint after the credits for bonus content!

The anomalies is too hard for me to find but there's work around it. There's also more to this game than just the loop https://youtu.be/uUteIkutjeg
