About The House of E.

The House of E. is a story-driven puzzle game with horror elements and a creepy atmosphere.

As you explore the darkest corners of the spooky mansion, you will collect items and solve riddles. Notes and newspaper pages will shed light on past events, and all combined will put you one step closer to discovering the truth. And in the end, you will have to decide not only about Emma’s fate.

The game has three different endings. Due to its length, there is no save option.
Although David and Emma Adams are siblings, they grew apart in time. But when the news of Emma's disappearance reaches David, he decides to do whatever is in his power to find her. Seeing the hopelessness of the local PD, he decides to take the matter into his own hands.

The trail leads him to the old mansion owned by a mystery horror novelist, who, as it turns out, also vanished without a trace. Believing those disappearances are not a coincidence, David goes to the manor.

He ventures into the unknown...

I really liked the atmosphere and the story (mostly). The puzzle solving is done pretty well, it's your standard "explore every nook and cranny for items to progress" deal. It looks decent graphically, and plays well. It's not a game about combat or stealth, it's just about trying to solve the puzzles and experience the story and spooks. I definitely had a couple of things that I did not like. There are jumpscares, and while some of them are not bad, most of them are what I would consider to be "cheap" and cheesy, and didn't serve much purpose to but to pad the spoops a little bit. I thought they were lame. Now, I had said that I mostly liked the story... but boy, did I HATE the endings. The dialogue could have used a lot more polish, the player's character in particular, some of it sounded like an edgy 13 year old wanna-be tough guy. There is an attempt to make him out to be someone with a regretful past, but it just didn't land for me. It all wasn't awful, but I absolutely rolled my eyes a few times. All in all, this is a pretty good game, If you can get past what I complained about, then you will have no problems playing this. If you have an hour or two, you can do far, far wo…

For a free game, this one really impressed me. I loved the jump scares, the tension the music sets, the story line, and the puzzles I needed to solve to reach the end. I also loved how this game allowed for 3 separate endings, so it's different based on what you choose to do. It's a fun game with a creepy vibe, and the puzzles are designed to where you have to rely on your memory and your inventory. All in all, I loved this game. Very happy with what the devs did and how it all came together.

This game has massive performance issues, while the story of it sounds interesting and compelling it was clear this was someones short test of coding skill rather than an attempt at making an actual game the only reason i have 11 hours on it is because i accidentally left it running when i went to sleep

Fun small puzzle game. The atmosphere is surprisingly scary and a few of the jumpscares really got me. The only downside I would complain about, is that sometimes it is rather unclear what you're supposed to do next and checking every room multiple times certainly doesn't help keep up the tension. But for a free game this is still an amzing deal. If you have 2 hours to kill and don't have a problem with horror and heavier subject matters, give The House of E a try,

I played this game for almost three hours and half was because I didn't know what the heck I was supposed to do. That being said- it's a full game that works and has a story. I recommend it based on that alone after sorting through the free games on Steam. I don't know if that's damning with faint praise but I do think there's a peculiar charm here as well. I recommend with the suggestion to use the video guide when you get stuck and turn the brightness up if all else fails.
