About The Pilgrim

“Will you lend your eye to me?
I’ll swim within your memory
Forgive my legibility
My master’s hand was frail and weak”
- translated and adapted from scraps of the lost

You have been visited by the Ancient.

The language of your kind has been forgotten.

Travel through the remains of a lost civilization.

Bring order to the symbols of the land.

Developed over the course of a year at DigiPen Institute of Technology, The Pilgrim is a reimagining of the classic “hidden object” genre of games. Each section holds something new to explore.
 • Luscious 3D environments.
 • A haunting soundscape.
 • Many triangles.
 • Something you haven’t seen before.

another disappointing student project, style over everything. resolutions and windowed mode on startup via the unity launcher, in-game the only setting is a windowed mode toggle. nothing for audio in a game with all sorts of audio. well done for not having any idea how a game should work, and this is just the beginning. no mid-level saving, of course, but areas are relatively small and level select is a thing, as one of the very few positives. still, saving anytime should be possible. it looks good but performance is anything but, the perfect combination of missing both optimization and any kind of gfx settings, including a brightness slider. the fixed camera angles are ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ awful too, especially combined with only point & click movement, no wasd/arrows, and the terrain is all over the place, even harder to navigate. it's very slow (can't double-click to move faster), the camera's too close to the character (can't zoom out) and unnecessarily disorienting. half the time you're walking towards the camera without knowing where exactly you're going, and it's possible to end up off-screen for added frustration. gameplay itself is primitive and tedious: pick up glowing symbol…

W art, no story. Worth for short entertainment imo.

Amazing. Fully recommend this short, free, bite-sized masterpiece.

Well that was a fun little game. Its like a hidden object game, but with puzzle mechanics.

I couldn't help but be drawn to the description of this game's Steam page, which is a first for my reviews and not necessarily an indictment, but I was at least hoping for the word "triangle" or some allusion to triangles since this game has so many triangles. There was a very dramatic intro scene where the triangle lost all their shape friends, and overall the game is a lot more dramatic than I can seem to understand, as well as my Pilgrim, who blankly jaunts along as my mindless thrall in this abstract anglo-verse. Once I return the shape disciples to triang-god, the Pilgrim is begone from this camera, his role fulfilled. The game has a smooth arc of Mind game fun by paring down the spotter techniques of the point-and-click genre into a polyomino set, which ends up putting the Land on the altar by design. Every shape and camera structure follows in service to the Pilgrim and not me; the game of the spotter rather than the mind of the explorer. While it is a reimagining of "hidden object" games as you say, I'd say that point-and-click adventures beat you to the punch, where the "hidden object" is a hidden context of objects across different screens. Gorogoa inverts the concept …
