About The Sea Between

The Sea Between is an indie fantasy JRPG, about a young man named Vis, who realizes there are a lot of things he doesn’t know about his family and himself. After growing up on a small island, Vis is forced to leave the comforts of his home to set out on an unexpected journey. Along the way he meets a group of new people and, together, they find out just how dangerous the world can be. Monsters start appearing in greater numbers, and it's up to Vis and his new allies to find out how to keep themselves safe and where this new threat is coming from.

This game isn’t about heroes and villains. It’s about the grey area we all live in based on the choices we make. If Good and Evil are islands that we are travelling towards through every decision we make, then this game is about The Sea Between.

RECOMMENDED Ratings 7/10 (Enjoyable and Well-made) "The Sea Between" is another well-made and enjoyable RPG Maker game by an independent developer. My only complaint is that it is a bit short, but even so, I had 38 hours of fun, playing it twice. This game also have a few very nicely made puzzles to tease your brain as well. The story is moving, about how the main hero discovering who he really is. I love this game because it pays attention to all the little details to make a beautiful RPG Maker game world. There is also a lot of opportunities for grinding as well, which I love. It is interesting that there is a level cap of 25 levels. I did not fully understand the level cap until I finished the game. It is then that I realized that the villain did not really die, and perhaps that is why there is a level cap of 25 so that it would pave the way for a sequel to this wonderful RPG. Keep up the great work, and I really look forward to a sequel.

I tried very hard to like this and persevere with it, but ultimately didn't finish it, since it was more frustrating than enjoyable. Enemies were very tedious, and you do need to fight a decent number of them rather than just running away. I've never needed to grind so early in a game! Random encounters were relentless and dull to fight through. The lack of save points made things worse; Majoha Temple was particularly annoying because it took hours to do the whole thing and there were no save points within, which meant exiting the temple at the end of every session and triggering more random encounters. The other negative was the female Adelyse being referred to as "Sir", which was as odd and irritating as it would have been calling her "Mister"! Everything else about the game was good, but the endless repetitive fighting made it too tedious to enjoy, and unfortunately, I doubt I'll finish it.

I love what I've played so far (Up to the point when you head to Vawn)! The writing's great and the combat is classic but fun. Aside from the start when you only have Vis in the party, you don't really end up feeling the need to spam "Attack" all the time, and I really like that! My only real complaint so far is that the game doesn't really give you much feedback about enemy weaknesses/resistances. If I can leave a suggestion, there's a plugin for RMMV from SRDude called the "Popup Status Customizer" which you can make text pop up under certain conditions, such as a target being hit by an element they're weak to or resist. I'd love to see that used in a future update if it's compatible with the rest of the plugins you used. Aside from that, I absolutely love this game so far! I highly recommend at least trying it out! Update: Arrived at Majoha Temple and the combat really shines in that battle against the Mimic on the second floor. I actually found myself using the status skills like Provoke, which I don't end up doing very often in games like this. I applaud you for being able to make the combat this engaging!

Great game! The story did a good job at drawing you in and the combat system had no flaws. The art style and map were well done too! I recommend.

Excellent world building and level design. Game had me hooked, only reason I was able to close it to leave this review was because the first boss game over'd me (because I was playing sloppy on purpose). Definitely want to come back to this one.
