Greta Tanner died in her sleep last night.
The doctors don’t know what to think. Sure, Greta was old, but not old enough to die without an apparent cause. She didn’t take pills, had no medical problems, and had no recent surgeries.
Winter creeps into the small town of Trenton, Alaska. The roads are blocked with snow, and the wind carries an icy dagger.
Dr. Grayson, the town’s new resident doctor, examines Greta's corpse. Some bruising. Slight burn marks on her legs – it could be frostbite. Hidden under Greta’s hair are five crescent-shaped wounds. None are severe enough to have been the cause of death, but the marks are fresh and bloody. There has to be a connection.
Was Greta murdered? Or is there something else going on in Trenton? Some people in town have been acting weird, and a strange song is singing in the wind. Or is that just madness?
Dr. Grayson must find whatever killed Greta Tanner and stop it from killing anyone else.
The Sleeping Sickness is an interactive short story that allows the player to guide the main character's actions.
Each day, the player chooses where Grayson investigates. The player’s choices will lock and unlock future locations, change dialogue, and alter the story. Choices matter in The Sleeping Sickness.
While The Sleeping Sickness includes sounds, graphics, and interactive sections, it focuses on the story.
The game is designed to play like a choose-your-own-adventure book and is an excellent choice for horror fans, avid readers, and lovers of creepy pastas.
Each playthrough lasts 45 – 60 minutes and covers ~9,000 words. The entire story is approximately 31,000 words (roughly the length of Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck).
Each playthrough will feel like a complete short story altered by the player’s choices. However, multiple read-throughs will be required to uncover the entire mystery.
The Sleeping Sickness has six possible endings. Will you experience them all? Will you solve the mystery? Will you cure the sleeping sickness?

I played this on stream after getting a key on Keymailer, and I'm so glad I did. This experience is excellent. If you enjoy choose your own adventure style story books with a light horror theme, this one is for you. It's reading heavy, with a very well written story and characters you'll instantly love to hate. Each chunk of reading is broken up by a choice section, where you can choose where to go next. This influences the story and leads you onto the path to one of 6 different endings. I got ending 4 on stream. I highly recommend playing this for a good read, or if you're a streamer, it's a great way to get chat involved, get them talking and have them choose your next steps, it's entertaining for everyone! Overall I thought the creator wove together a very fine story with bits and pieces of lore or insight stashed away here and there. For me it was very satisfying to trek down one path, gaining a knowledge of the eldritch events going on, and then later go down another path and understand the reference or the why they saw/said what they did. I know that's what these games are supposed to do and at least for the path I took it was spot on. For an indie developer, I thought they did a nice job on the audio. The music and sound bytes are just simple enough that it doesn't distract from the reading experience, and yet they are well placed and effective in establishing the mood of each sequence. My favorite was one later on involving Cassandra. I won't say more, but that one was so unsettling and unending that I had to mute my sound momentarily while I read through the page. I tried to just work through it but could not; the heebie jeebies were too much haha Definitely recommend this one though. Even as someone who doesn't play these types of games often, the price was well worth the time invested and the satisfaction I got going through it.2 found this helpful
I enjoyed this game a lot more than I thought I would. I'm not much a reader, but it kept me on the edge of my seat and I even replayed it trying to find the best ending, which I did in the end. I think it's worth the price if you enjoy choose your own adventure books or horror stories. Don't expect much visuals-it literally is a virtual book with very few pictures, but the writing was very good to me making it a fun experience even if the story itself was very sad.
