About The Unclogging: An Unsanitary Saga

Save the world from being covered in excrement!
If you love dealing with everyday inconveniences, ridiculous situations, and having no toilet paper, then this game is for you.
Tons of adventure and excitement in this 25 hour long quest. Explore the world, defeat enemies and solve puzzles!

We got a good amount of hate because (1. RPG Maker) and (2. Poop jokes). With that said:
Before you criticize, AT LEAST play the free 3 chapter demo!

Set out on a somewhat meaningless epic adventure! Four friends (well 2 are friends, 2 are randoms) with stereotypical elemental powers find out what it means to have their toilet paper stolen. They set out for revenge on a mysterious villain (OOOoooOOOooohhhh.....) who causes this immense inconvenience. Prepare yourself for a full day's worth of excitement (disclaimer: please don't play for a whole day in one sitting)!

Turn based adventure/RPG
300+ maps
25 hours of gameplay (and that's if you know exactly what to do and where to go)
4 playable characters (already mentioned; see above)
21 weapons, and even more items including a few stat boosters
119 enemies (that you will inevitably hate)
All your typical adventure game locations
Elemental superpowers (with that slight twist of course)

Full game is over 500MB (lots of graphics and music, all free for commercial use)

2.5 years in development. Started in September 2013 in RPG Maker VX Ace, and COMPLETELY REDONE in RPG Maker MV. Finished in 2016.

CONTROLS:
Standard RPG Maker control setup
Action/Cancel: Z, X
Move: Arrow Keys
Run: Hold Shift

✦ AI summary

Players criticize The Unclogging for relying heavily on toilet humor that overshadows any potential story, along with poor game balance including drastically overpriced items and frustrating mandatory dodging mechanics in the main quest that feel more like arbitrary punishment than engaging gameplay. The game is also dismissed as a low-effort RPG Maker asset flip that exemplifies the abundance of hastily-constructed games flooding Steam using generic templates and clichéd anime-adjacent writing rather than genuine design effort.

WIthout the poop jokes, the storyline would at least be the start of something, but this is pretty bad and does the whole poop joke thing overboard (even though that's the entire theme of this), but other cons are that it doesn't seem very well balanced, with items being ridiculously expensive. The absolute last straw for me though was having to dodge instadeath orbs as part of the main quest. As a side puzzle, okay fine as I can just skip that, but as part of the main quest is dumb.

RPG Maker strikes again! The Unclogging: An Unsanitary Saga is one of hundreds of low effort retro-pixel RPG Maker asset/construction kit flips spamming the Steam catalog, made with the RPG Maker video game construction kit... in their own words, "Our easy to use tools are simple enough for a child." Like all RPG Maker "games", this is essentially a bunch of low quality/canned assets from RPG Maker coupled with a cringeworthy high school anime club fan fiction. There's a couple of "notable" things about this. Appropriately, the game has a toilet theme and nothing could be more fitting for any game made with RPG Maker. Strangely, the "developer" openly admits this isn't a professionally made game because they used RPG Maker (many "developers" try to hide this fact, but we can all tell in an instant when something is RPG Maker construction kit shovelware). Finally, there's the boast of 300 levels, I can't directly confirm this, but there's no reason not to believe it. But as always, more of a bad thing doesn't make the bad thing better, it makes it worse. Imagine if the ~5 minutes of life wasted in RPG Maker to make each of the levels could have been spent learning how to do …
