The Van Game

Leaving a review for 'The Van game' was the first thing I did after beating my first run on medium difficulty, which I played uninterrupted without closing the game once. Actually, I kind of beat it four times, which is something I'll explain a little bit farther down below. I can't believe this game only has 8 reviews. It's shocking, really, seeing as it's actually quite fun. Very indie, but in a good way. Love the art direction and music. As is the case with most other 'Oregon Trail' style games, the mechanics are incredibly simple - to a fault, really, which is one of a few minor nitpicks I have with this title. But before I dive into those cons, here are some pros: - art style - music - most gameplay elements - the opportunity to brush up on national park knowledge - cozy & relaxing - ᴠ ɪ ʙ ᴇ ꜱ Now for some criticism... There are some minor typos here and there - not enough to ruin the experience, but worth pointing out. There is not enough variety in terms of events, resources, things to do, etc. About halfway into my run, the game started losing some steam. Great Game

Oregon Trail, but Van Life. if you like the concept you'll love the game. A great balance of cozy, and mildly maddening, with a nice helping of all the neat info on the actual parks! A real fun ride I'll be taking many times!

Eh. It's fine. It could have been way more fun but it's a little slow and it promises the same format as Oregon Trail, it is but not nearly as interesting. I really wanted to love it, it would do well if it were written more comedically. The minigames are interesting, not as fun as OT though.

Van game is basically an Oregon Trail type of game where you travel across the US, starting with 5 people, and try to maintain your crew's happiness with food, rest, and various events playing out, all while trying to not have your van breaking down due to a technical issue that needs a tool box, simply losing a tire, or the engine breaking down. Various events occur that will put your crew in a more sour mood, including getting sick which you will need a med kit for, which is probably most important as that's what you use to convince a family member to stay when they are out of happiness (least on normal difficulty). Trying to maintain all of this is probably the hardest part of the game and when you have no upgrades to hold on and the game giving you 5 characters to watch, who will each need food every hour, oh yeah you also gotta maintain food. A silly part of Van Game are the mini games, while most of them do look like they would fit more on a mobile phone, this isn't a phone app game (which actually surprised me I admit, I thought this was an app turned PC game, but it started as a PC game), but that works for this medium so that the minigames are quick, if you are doing g…
