Thief Simulator 2

I had a blast finishing Thief Simulator 2 and unlocking every achievement, multiple ways to complete jobs add variety

Essentially the same as the first one, in the grand tradition of Knights of the Old Republic II or Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door. The most important addition from the first game is the ability to temporarily neutralize the residents and homes of the places you're burglarizing. I'm torn on this: on the one hand, the fact that you couldn't deal with the guards or tenants in any way other than flight or hiding in the first one made it unique among stealth games and required more patience or planning than just sneaking up behind everyone and "peacefully" choking them until they're unconscious, a la Dishonored, Deus Ex, or Thief. On the other hand, the knockout methods are more limited than in those games (more akin to the non-letal knockouts from Hitman 2: Silent Assassin), and appropriately expensive. The drone is also nice, although I hate that they got rid of the "thief ratings" after every burglary - they're still there, it's just hidden behind the in-game phone. The "heists," especially the final one at the bank, were fun. If they ever decide to ditch the open world, that's where they should take their cues from. For me, Thief Simulator 2 was a good successor. In some regards even better, but also not perfect. The small and medium houses felt really good to loot, but the bigger ones just felt overloaded and took forever, which kinda defeats the purpose of a quick in-and-out. Knocking out guards and homeowners was a nice addition, as was the drone. The latter, however, didn't quite work for me, as it got spotted quite often. If you liked the first one and don't mind slightly larger raids, then you will like this game.

A fun game trapped inside a buggy remake of Thief Simulator 1. The basic gameplay is still great: sneak into houses, figure out people's routines, steal everything that isn't nailed down, and slowly upgrade yourself until you're basically the Batman of petty crime. Unfortunately, the game seems to think walls, roofs and silent shoes are optional features. I've been detected through roofs after spending ages carefully looting an entire area. Security cameras happily spotted me through walls. And my "silent shoes" apparently make absolutely no difference, because people repeatedly heard me walking on flat ground. The police are also a masterpiece of questionable game design. Sometimes they simply refuse to leave, and the taser has approximately the range of a military-grade satellite weapon. And then there's the biggest problem: This doesn't feel like Thief Simulator 2. It feels like Thief Simulator 1.5. The first few houses feel almost exactly like the first game. There aren't enough meaningful changes, and somehow the game even feels smaller than its predecessor. I was genuinely surprised when it suddenly ended.
