About Tormenture

A cursed horror game inside another game, set on the 80’s

Tormenture is a psychological horror game that takes players on a dark and immersive journey, complete with a shocking twist. In Tormenture, you step into the role of a young child drawn by rumors of a cursed 8-bit horror game. According to legend, the developers of this game made a pact with the devil to achieve eternal life, triggering terrifying consequences. Alone in the dark, you confront eerie, mind-bending paranormal events as you dive deeper into a game that blurs the boundaries between nightmare and reality. To unravel the game’s mysteries and avoid getting trapped within it, you must locate and gather four sacred relics, guiding you north across a sprawling map filled with complex puzzles—some of which bridge the line between the virtual and real worlds. But beware, for some creatures may break free from the screen and haunt the shadows of your own reality.Tormenture is inspired by classic horror games, featuring nostalgic mechanics and controls in a fully immersive 3D environment. It’s truly a “game within a game,” designed to keep you questioning what’s real and what’s not.
A tribute to 8-bit classic games, Tormenture transports you to the 80’s, to a child’s room in which you will be playing the cursed game and interacting with classic toys like the Speak’n Spell, a Stereo, the Guess Who? and many others that will help you unlock hidden secrets. In this adventure, you’ll tackle puzzles that challenge both your wit and instincts. Every step in this dark journey brings you closer to unveiling hidden truths in this strange realm. Prepare to lose yourself in an spooky atmosphere that fuses retro charm with modern unpredictability  where every moment brims with tension and surprises.

Features:

 • Retro Gameplay: Inspired by classic games, experience the nostalgia of early adventure games, enriched with a spooky dark twist.
 • A Haunting Tale: Assume the role of a child from the 80's, lost in his favorite video game while unraveling the mysteries of his own bedroom. The blurred lines between reality and gameplay will pull you into a uniquely unsettling narrative.

Do you have the courage to face these unsettling trials and uncover the truth? Step into Tormenture and prepare for an unforgettable journey.

If you like retro games this is a must play. While the horror is a great addition, the game design and puzzle really are amazingly good and clever.

Even though I would have loved way more horror component, the Atari game itself is pretty solid and fun, with plenty of puzzles and secrets. Enjoyed it a lot.

Begins quaint and fun, descending slowly into mediocrity and then into extreme frustration. The final dungeon/boss combined create an experience similar to a deafening, rotten fart directly into your mouth that does not cease until you close the game. The bridge item is in such a laughably buggy and outright hostile-to-the-player state that you have to wonder why they left it in. The final quarter of the entire runtime was just one big glitch, I bugged into multiple places I was not supposed to, mostly by accident, including
the sword room.
The final boss was absolutely maddening, I quickly and easily did exactly what was required, dodging all attacks, but the bridge item let me down attempt after attempt, forcing me to take damage whilst trying to "fix" it. I am so so so glad it's over. The game would be SO much better without the final dungeon/boss. An incredible shame.

Highly underated, and my favorite horror game. Plays well and very immersive. Best played with the lights dimmed, and good headphones.
