Trident's Tale

Okay so huge disclaimer starting off. I gave this game a thumbs up but it is difficult to recommend. I'll explain. I was looking for a pirate game. Something that had the vibe, the music, the bright colorful islands to loot and explore. There's nothing out there that is like THE pirate game. I play Sea of Thieves and yeah I've played Black Flag so I was looking for something a little more single player action/adventure with a story ya know? I tried the demo of this knowing it wasn't going to be amazing after reading reviews. It scratched the itch enough for me to buy it on sale. Now I'm going to be up front with you. The game isn't great. It's okay. It's got what I wanted at the time so I did enjoy my experience but it's like watching a bad move because you know it's bad and you laugh at how bad it is. This game is like the "We have Mario Pirate Adventures" at home. That sounds like a dope game actually. Nintendo you gunna get on that? F Nintendo. Anyways the voice acting is so bad. I feel bad for these people. Maybe they had fun but oof it's not good...that being said I had a lot of "lol" moments listening to the dialogue. It just sounds like the VAs were given no context a…

This game is GOOD with many remarks... ✓ Simple adventure (no big challenge) ✓ Nice story (same vibe as kid animation series) ✓ Pirate fantasy ✓ Potential to do better BUT at this moment it still needs many of polishing before I can call it a GREAT game... (aside from bugs/glitches) - FOV setting to help reduce motion sickness - QoL features like 'Buy/Sell all' - More depth in combat gameplay, such as more attack moves (for both protagonist and enemies) - Ability balancing (in the current version, just spam an HP regen skill can survive most of the game) - Cutscenes that could have much more impact with better timing and SFX I recommend this game because it has a lot of good resources available for further development. And I hope this game eventually reaches a point where it's worth the price.

I definitely don't recommend this for most people, after 2 hours I've think I've seen enough to know that this isn't for me. However, it's not necessarily a bad game but it just feels way too by the numbers. If Wind Waker and Sea of Thieves had a love child they kept hidden, this would kind of be it. Very piratey, open world single player with that stylized cartoon look, there's so much media coming out with this same aesthetic "clean" aesthetic, it feels done to death. The art should be inspired, it's too safe without any identity. It felt like the game had no fresh ideas, and the controls felt unrefined. The platforming, combat or movement (including the ship movement) really never feels smooth, but it has the indie-game stiffness where nothing has any weight to the animations. The story is very standard high fantasy "collect the stones of elemental power" fare. I was hoping the characters would at least get me latched on to keep going. Good, cheesy voice acting is loved in this household. For me it fell flat, the voice cast isn't actually that bad, but there's strange tonal shifts in the lines sometimes that aren't cohesive at all. Has me question if there was anyone directing…

Full of charm and a sincere attempt at making something lovely. It's janky and the voice acting is essentially the product of asking your best mates to do it... but there is something wonderful about the game, like a PS2 gem.

How clunky do you want the combat to be? Devs: Yes! How unintuitive do you want the controls to be? Devs: Yes! How annoying do you want the graphic effects like Chromatic Aberation to be? Devs: Yes! ALT+F4 during first boss fight and uninstalled.
