Uncanny Tales: 1992 – is a psychological horror and narrative adventure game developed by VYASTUDIO. Its the second episode in the series and it tells a pretty believable horror story set during Autumn, Russia in 1992, during the post-soviet era. You are left completely alone in a family members old apartment, in a deserted & quiet town where many local children have reportedly gone missing, schools are closed ect. Progress is tied to examining household objects, reading notes and some tense newspapers. This deliberate, sluggish pacing works heavily in the game's favour, allowing the convincing sound design to build its atmosphere. The writing and voice acting can be a little hit-and-miss but its okay. But for me, the ending is sure, a little unoriginal and a bit familiar, not necessarily unjustified but it has potential to be stressfull and tedious to play through, yet it still resolves the plot logically and the way it should've done.. just don't expect it to reinvent the genre, I don't think it will blow anybody away, but it still proves to be respectable low-budget indie horror game probably made by a couple of people. A short indie game that makes me appreciate what goes into games. I got this game because it's very inexpensive and said that it provided a nice, brief horror experience. I'm not a horror fan, but I like short stories, and that's exactly what this feels like: an episode of Are You Afraid of the Dark? You can get through it in less than an hour, and there are some repetitive documents both because you revisit a place as a different character and, presumably, so you don't miss the critical exposition required to understand the game. However, I enjoyed it. It felt like an episode of a television show that you played. The Positives: -For such a short game, it is atmospheric. There are roughly four areas you explore, and the world feels real minus the apartment missing a bedroom. While playing, all I could think of was, "Wow, someone made a little game where they designed these four areas and put them together to tell a little story. How entrepreneurial is that?" Yes, you can see the amateur nature with graphics quality from roughly 20 years ago and sound effects that aren't perfectly seamless with the game, but its flaws just made me appreciate game development even more. -They h…
