About Undershadows

Undershadows is a darkly absurd adventure with a fully hand-drawn world, a unique real-time point-and-click combat system, and a shadow companion with more personality than you might expect.
Some places you never forget. Others never let you leave.🕷️ A dark adventure with bite
Uncover an absurd, melancholic story about loss, identity, and twisted fates – filled with dark humor, moral gray areas, and nasty surprises.🎨 800+ hand-drawn scenes
Explore a surreal world brought to life by hand – just real illustrations shaped by shadow.⚔️ Tactical real-time combat with point-and-click actionClick on enemies to attack in real time, deflect projectiles with precise timing, unleash powerful skills, and use items from your inventory. But beware: each enemy type has unique behavior – some transform mid-battle, strike back when defeated, or can kill you in a single blow. Others challenge you with puzzles or projectile patterns. No fight is ever the same.💀 Nightmarish boss fights with unique flow
Face massive shadow creatures that reshape entire levels – complete with special rules, unexpected attacks, and story events mid-battle.
No boss is the same. None will go easy on you.🧠 Train your evolving shadow
Your companion is more than a monster – it’s you. Level it up, choose transformation paths (e.g. Nature > Beast > Hydra or Tech > Weapons > Rocket Launcher), unlock new abilities, and define your own combat style.🎭 The shadows talk – way too much
You're joined by a sarcastic, borderline psychotic mask that never shuts up, comments on everything – and might just drive you insane. Maybe.🌒 The Shadowlands await
Journey through a semi-open world. Forests that breathe. Caves that scream. An ancient castle hidden in the mountains.
A cheerful town…
A what?
Ugh. I hate those red noses.🧩 Deep sidequests & surreal puzzles
Nothing is what it seems. Not even the shadows trying to help you.
But is being alone really the better option?

It has a very nice artsyle and interesting world. It's very reminiscing of old newgrounds game, especially the 'collect all the deaths' aspect. The Undertale influence is very visible (maybe too much?) but it quickly become it's own thing. There's definitely a lot of secrets and deep lore stuff to find and I know I already missed a bunch of those, I'm just not very good at secret hunting. It takes a WHILE before any fighting / non-puzzle gameplay happens, it took me like an hour before even getting to the fight tutorial but the fights look good from what I saw so far. Also takes like half an hour before you can really do anything. Some of the puzzles stumped me for a second, the game definitely doesn't spell them out to you, at least not without dying a bunch first. The point and click stuff can also be finicky, especially if you click a bunch or fast. My main problem so far would be that the game is strangely slow, like outside some animations, the text and moving around, everything could be a 1.25 or 1.50 times speed and it would feel a lot better. There's some translation issues but nothing all that hard to understand regardless. Overall definitely a cool game so far and I…

definitely potential, depends on your patience! in agreement with other review(s), the game could stand to be at the "sped up" left-clicking speed by default, and the attrition aspect of the puzzles isn't to my tastes, but it clearly has love put into it and it wears its influences on its sleeve one to give a try!

That's why you need to playtest. The first half hour is so boring, ugly, and full of cringe jump scares that I just don't want to continue.

Undershadows is an interesting game, concept-wise. Imagine a mix between a horror point-and-click adventure and an RPG made in RPG Maker. Can you picture it? I couldn’t either – but here it is. And honestly, after playing it for about an hour, I’m not quite sure what to say. The story is intriguing, with a few nice touches of dark humor and references to pop culture (for example – Horatio and his iconic sunglasses removal before delivering a “wise” line). On the other hand, out of that one hour of gameplay, I actually played for maybe 20 minutes – the rest was taken up by dialogue and long “cutscenes” in the game’s distinctive but rather ugly art style. All in all – an interesting experiment, though I’m not entirely sure I like it. Gameplay: https://youtu.be/gPsUB9RpW30
