Unreal Wukong, developed and published by Jet Games, is an open-world action RPG that takes clear inspiration from the legend of Sun Wukong and attempts to translate that mythological foundation into a playable adventure. It positions itself within a familiar structure—exploration, combat, and character progression—but what it ultimately delivers is a modest interpretation of those ideas, one that shows ambition in concept but remains uneven in execution. The game is built around freeform exploration, allowing players to move through a fantasy landscape populated with enemies, scattered objectives, and occasional points of interest. There is an intention to capture a sense of openness, giving players room to engage with the world at their own pace. However, while the structure suggests freedom, the world itself often feels underdeveloped. Large areas can appear sparse, and the lack of meaningful environmental interaction makes exploration feel more functional than rewarding. Movement is fluid enough to keep traversal from becoming frustrating, but it rarely evolves into something particularly engaging beyond basic navigation. Combat serves as the central mechanic, relying on a st…
It's kind of a bizarre Chinese mythology game where you're fighting a dragon and a golem but also dinosaurs, and robots with laser guns, and a mecha bear. Like they bought whatever NPC model was available. I like it precisely because of how weird it is. Pros: It's got great graphics and it feels good trekking through mountains smacking robots with my staff. Very satisfying that they do somersaults when you smack them. Cons: The controls are a little clunky, like I got used to walking but I'm still not sure how to use my powers. I just smash random buttons and boom I'm a flying insect, boom I'm surfing on a cloud, boom I'm teleporting a short distance. I also wound up collecting a bunch of loot and wish there was a vendor I could sell them to. It's not possible to beat the bosses right away, you have to rest and when the enemies respawn, kill them over and over (like Diablo) until you level. I'm not a fan of that mechanic. I expect I'm almost finished with the game, I think I'm two bosses from the end. It was short and sweet and well worth the price.
