Untravelled Planet is a retro 3D platformer that attempts to capture classic gaming aesthetics, but players find it hampered by significant technical and design issues that feel unfinished for a full release. Common complaints include sluggish character movement that requires grinding through early hours to improve, lack of control customization (key remapping, mouse sensitivity), persistent crashes that erase progress, and poorly paced tutorials with unclear instructions and unskippable subtitles. While some appreciate the retro pixel art style and low PC requirements, most agree the game wou
Right. So, Untravelled Planet should have released into early access instead of seeing a full release for six bucks. This game definitely needs a lot more time in the oven. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3404685453 And interestingly enough, so many issues present themselves in the tutorial that I really don't understand why the dev decided to push this out. For one, despite being a platformer and shooter, your character moves like s/he is swimming though molasses while also walking through mud. Make sense? No? Exactly. You can use shift to run, but all that really does is get you back up to what would be considered acceptable walking speed. There is a Metroid roll, and you do pick up some speed when doing so, but even then, it is sloooooowwwww... Attack speed? Slooooooooooooowwwwwwwwww... Jumping? Floaty and Slooooooooooooooooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww... Swimming? You know already. Additionally, the actual movement, on top of being slow, is also janky AF. There is some weird glitchiness in the music playing. The story set-up makes zero sense. Why are you near enough to this abandoned planet that you would get shot down by pirates…14 found this helpful

As with so many other games, you must grind through the first several hours to get upgrades that fix some of the issues, but crashes that erase hours of progress don't do the game any favors. Intro doesn’t give you any information. After picking a male or female character (it doesn’t effect the gameplay), you crash-land your spaceship on an unknown planet because someone took a shot at you. There you’re saved by a duck-like creature who gives you a strange pendant that interacts with objects on the planet. Your mission is to explore and find components to fix your ship. There is one problem with intros and cutscenes in general. Because there are no voices, the game uses subtitles to communicate text. Unfortunately, you have no influence over them in cutscenes. This is a problem since the text moves too quickly for you to read. It appears that English was translated from another language, but there was no adjustment to pace or length, since several subtitles disappear at the corners of the screen. I also recommend that you check out the settings and turn on a few options. For instance, the default settings turn the sound volume to zero. You can also turn on anti-aliasing. This is a truly retro game, so retro it does not have 2K or 4K resolution, so retro it does not have key customisation, so retro you can't adjust mouse sensitivity, so retro that you can be stopped by a tiny pixel you do not even see... Unfortunately I could not bare with this issues to play the game for longer and can't really comment of the gameplay core, but the UI and how limited the game is was a deal breaker for me. If you love Ape Escape, Mega Man Legends on PS1, and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on N64, this game is made for you! It is classic and full of exploration. The controls are not bad, to be honest, although they need some polish, especially the camera. The game could also use more sounds for atmosphere. The controls sometimes reject inputs on some occasions, especially when you need to roll. Maybe this is related to my gamepad, since I use a GameCube Pro Controller. With some polish, I can see the game getting much better. The puzzle mini-game feels a bit clunky, and I wish it was smoother. Also, the first enemies are very hard. I think it would be much better if they staggered when I hit them with melee attacks. I also felt a bit lost in the first section of the game. If those issues are addressed, I will definitely return to it in the future.
