Pretty decent visual assets, otherwise incredibly generic and subpar when compared to any game it is clearly inspired by. Weapons and equipment are boring. Map generation and objectives are extremely simplistic and repetitive. Enemy's and combat, outside of bosses, are very basic. In general outside of the art assets, every other aspect of the game feels like it is placeholder and early access. For under 15$ you can buy/play any of these games instead, and you should. This game is pretty awesome and doesn't seem brutally difficult. ( yet )3 found this helpful
I can't beat the second boss. It only takes a few minutes to even get to it, and my playtime has been almost exclusively spent on the second boss. That is absurd. It is super spongy, can 1-hit-ko you if you get too close (and you have to get close, cause weapons have terrible range), heals the entire fight, spawns adds all the time, and is constantly slinging spells at you that require constant dodging. It's a complete brickwall and its only A FEW MINUTES INTO THE GAME. No. That is stupid. Do not support stupid games.3 found this helpful
Originally, I bought this game because it released close to my 19th birthday, so I didn't really expect much from it, but I have never regretted buying this game for a second. It continues to be enjoyable and exciting, and I haven't even beaten it yet. Sometimes I'll go weeks or months without playing it, but every time I come back to it, its just as fun as I remember. (And the soundtrack is awesome!) It definitely starts off as kinda challenging, but you'll get used to it. (It really helps when you figure out how to destroy projectiles with any of the characters' abilities, too.) The levels in between bosses can be a little dull sometimes, but the boss fights are challenging, intense, and very climactic, but they never felt overly unfair. Personally, I would definitely recommend Vile to a friend, especially if they are interested in roguelikes! :)2 found this helpful
I love a Rougelike/lite and for me VILE captures the the Genre pretty well. PRO'S I like the 8 bit art style. The control feel pretty good. The game overall gets a big thumbs up from me. The boss fights get gradually more and more intense such as fighting on the corpse of a boss you just killed down a fast moving river or on the back of a stage coach. I like the variety of characters and the characters that you can unlock. CON'S There's a lack of map which is kind of annoying though not overly so as the levels aren't very big. The weapon variety while cool lacks some what as a good chunk of them feel under powered and practically useless and the same with the spells/items. Also while on weapons, the ranges of them is very short which is annoying some times especially when the enemies can out range you. Oh and when you finish/beat a level don't immediately go for the chest as you can accidentally go through the end of level portal missing out on picking up all the souls and the weapon and also the health/mana. Can this be fixed please as it's happened to me a fair few times now. Overall I'm really enjoying VILE. Definitely worth a buy if you like Rougelikes/lites.
